Cloud's Round 2 Pro Predictions

Cloud has put together some predictions for round 2 of Pro and put them up on the Premier forums. You can read them here. He's also picked a virgin of the week, which is a little like Monkey Boy picking the most talkative player in Subspace.

Premier League Week 2 Schedule

Here's the full schedule from all three leagues for this coming Sunday. All times are in EST. There's no point spreads for Pro games as pro predictions were never opened on MR for some reason:

Pro League Round 2

Fuel (0-0) vs Sterling (1-0) @ 3pm

Llamasery (0-1) vs Starseed (0-0) @ 3pm

Assassins (1-0) vs Creation (0-1) @ 5pm

Exultant (0-1) vs The Dark (1-0) @ 6pm

NightBane (0-1) vs Poke Her (1-0) @ 7pm

IML Round 2

IMLlamasery (0-1) vs Striker (1-0) @ 4pm (llamas by 0.5)

Liquid Inc. (0-1) vs StarFire Elite (1-0) @ 4pm (SFE by 8.5)

Prospect (0-0) vs ReDS (0-1) @ 7pm (Pros by 1.5)

(Fly-NDeath have a bye)

AML Round 2

SkyRakers (1-0) vs BENCHERS UNITE (1-0) @ 3pm (BU by 1.0)

Fly-NDie (0-1) vs StarFire Academy (0-1) @ 4pm (SFA by 1.0)

ReDS-AML (1-0) vs Warlords (0-1) @ 5pm (ReDS by 5.5)

Obivously the staff are so upset at my IML predictions that they've decided to sabotage them by trying to play all the games at the same time. Remember you can find out all the league standings, results, stats and predictions on MasterRater and all the latest news on the Premier League website.

IML Round 2 Predcitions

Before I get into it a couple of corrections from last week. First of all CR Virgins didn't get knocked out of the playoffs last season by Invidium. That match was in the make-up round which meant that CRV finished the season at 4-4 and missed out on the playoffs. Also ReDS didn't have a bye in the first round of the pre-season, the result wasn't put up on MR for some reason They beat Liquid Inc.

Well the return of the Vorbometer saw me going 3-2. The two I got wrong were Secret's 12-1 hammering of Liquid Inc and Nightwatch topping ReDS in OT. The main thing I got wrong last week though was the size of the scores. LI/Sec aside the games were fairly tight with two match-ups decided in overtime. The round MVP was - according to blur's round 1 player rankings - Kejami of Nightwatch. He went 3-1 with 1 KO, 1 forced rep and the game winning OT kill on Blasteroids. Personally I would pick P-Mav as the MVP from the same game. His stats were 2-1, but he was a hero in OT as he saved Blasteroids once by repping for him and almost saved him a second time when, despite also being at 0 reps himself, he threw himself in front of Blasteroids and tried to draw NW's fire. I foresee a future career in the Secret Service. As I said in my AML predicts it's hard to pick a single LVP of the round without MR ratings, so I'm just going to go for Blasteroids who before getting splatted in OT went 0-2 with 3 forced reps.

So here's my predicts for Round 2 of Intermediate space squad combat league, which this week is brought to you by Armi and Danny (aka Mauler & Caerbannog) doing Motorhead:

CR Virgins (1-0) vs FutureCrew (0-1)

Peen> Vorbis did not mention me in his predicts :(
vorbis> it's your own fault for not having your name in caps
Peen> lol
Peen> I am the evil CR mutant from hell, and I expect I mention in the next round of playoffs
Peen> er regular season
vorbis> logged, for round 2 predicts
Peen> $

Vorbometer: 12-5 CR Virgins
Key players: Peen (CRV), the seven year itch (FC)
Watch out for: Peen. He's the evil CR mutant from hell.

IMLlamasery (0-1) vs Striker (1-0)

An open letter to Intermediate llamas,

This time last week in my opening IML predictions I wrote this single line concerning your game:

IMLlamasery belong in AML. StarFire Elite belong in Pro. You do the math. 12-1 SFE

I made this despite knowing the history of your squad and also despite tipping professional llamas to be competitive in their first season. The reason for this is, of course, the llama playing model (patent pending). With the llama playing model (patent pending) in full effect you are never going to get blown out in any game and will always compete for the full 45 minutes no matter who the opposition are. I should of taken this into account before making that round 1 prediction. The roster may be significantly weaker than intermediate llamas of the past, but it's never been about the individual llama. With the llama playing model (patent pending) in full effect the four become one - a Mecha Llama if you will.

I don't understand how I could of overlooked this last week and got my prediction so horribly wrong. It's that 'No Data to win in an exciting game' debacle all over again. Please let me take this opportunity to apologise to all llamas; intermediate, professional and alpha public.

Yours, Vorbis

Vorbometer: 5-3 IMLlamasery
Key players: bushes (llamas), Serrate (Stkr)
Watch out for: The llama playing model (patent pending)

Liquid Inc. (0-1) vs StarFire Elite (1-0)

Liquid Inc. belong in AML. StarFire Elite belong in Pro. You do the math. Although after saying that maybe LI's performance in round 1 isn't that much of an indicator of how the rest of their season is going go: This is a reply from Tajatte on the Premier forums on neef's (inferior) predictions thread:
Liq Inc started 3 guys, Silly_n00b was alt tabbed (while playing) for a long time trying to get their 4th on the roster so it was basically 4 vs 2 for some time. By the time they finally got their 4th in Secret took one out almost right away.

The game was a mess for LI and 12-1 was very flattering number for Secret, I am sure that if LI had 4 from the start we would have lost as usual (and expected)
I still stand by my statement of last week that LI always do well in seasons when More Majorum is on the roster, but right now I don't think they're ready to face a squad with the individual skill, experience and depth of SFE. With a lot of practice they could be ready in about 2009

Vorbometer: 12-3 StarFire Elite
Key players: More Majorum (LI), Garcon (SFE)
Watch out for: Me giving up on the More Majorum Corollary (patent pending) by next week.

Nightwatch (1-0) vs Secret (1-0)

Rumours of Nightwatch's death have been greatly exaggerated. By me. So Covert Agent is back playing and suddenly NW is performing at the level they've been at for the last few seasons. I'm sure it's just a coincidence though as I can't think of a single reason how the reappearance of CA would improve their gameplay so much in such a short space of time

The More Majorum Corollary may be looking a little dodgy but the Secret Activity Indicator is working at 100%. Their vets are practicing regularly and that's showed in their results so far. Kepi has been a good pick up for the departing Kinetics (to NW) and Jamurann (to LI), although I gather his English accent still sucks. As long as Secret stay active they should make the playoffs.

I haven't actually seen Secret play yet this season, so I'm going to pick NW in another battle that will be decided in OT. Also by picking NW maybe Czechmate will stop blaming me for the Middle East crisis.

Vorbometer: 9-8 Nightwatch
Key players: Covert Agent (NW), Kepi (Sec)
Watch out for: Nightwatch's impeccable teamwork. Remember there's no I in energy view. Team!, I mean team. There's no I in team. Phew, I think I got away with that one.

Prospect (0-0) vs ReDS (0-1)
$$$ game of the week $$$

Prospect come out of their opening round bye week to face ReDS who jump out of the Nightwatch frying pan into the Prospect fire (like that idiom? I'm on a motherfucking roll today.). Pros might suit ReDS more however as they are a much more aggressive team and their playing style should suit their better players like Madness and P-Mav.

It's hard to rank where Prospect stand right now without seeing them in the regular season. SFE have the deepest roster in IML, but arguably Prospect have a stronger starting four. After saying that though any team that has DeathKnight on it's roster isn't going to win a 2 dimensional spaceship title, it goes against the laws of physics. Prospect do have the talent who could get them over even that, although the space/time rip that a DK championship win would open up will cause reality to cease instantly. I'm sure he thinks it would be worth it.

There's no chance of this match going into OT. This will be like two heavyweight boxers throwing bombs at each other until a KO. Should make for an exciting game to watch and this is a match that really could go either way. I'm leaning towards Prospect purely because I like who they can play in the #4 slot as opposed to who ReDS have.

Vorbometer: 12-11 Prospect
Key players: Chronic (Pros), Madness (ReDS)
Watch out for: The Vorbometer fucking up yet again as ReDS hold on for a 3-1 win in OT and the spec freq commits mass suicide.

New Continuum Release Closer?

Sort of Subspace news. It looks like PrittK can come out of his spider hole now the Kazza lawsuits have been settled:

Sharman Networks Ltd., which produced and distributed the popular Kazaa software agreed to pay an unspecified "substantial sum" in penalties. It also promised to "use all reasonable means" to discourage online piracy, including building into its software "robust and secure" ways to frustrate computer users who try to find and download copyrighted music and movies, court papers said.

The settlement concludes legal battles against Sharman Networks around the world.

I guess when you have all that eBay money to throw around you can make things like this disappear. The news for Subspace is that this just might hasten the arrival of the next Continuum update. If you remember the last major update (0.38) had a bug with bomb prox which specially effected SVS zones. A pre-release of 0.39 was made public which fixed this, but the prox bug is still there for thors. It would be nice to see a full 0.39 release with this fixed.

You'll notice that the SPL now has its own stats site; UberRater. It's still not quite ready, but Beef has done a lot of work in a short space of time and so far it looks really good. Also, while MR is still not ready, UR can be used to parse Premier League logs.

Starseed couldn't continue in the tourney which is why CRV moved on despite losing. Assassins did beat PH 12-2 in the final, the reason it says 8-2 on the log is that the bot didn't assign the deaths to PH when slim and 0Nether specced. There was a restart in the final when zoo died while subbing in for Nethervoid and both teams agreed it should be counted as an ID. You can read the log of the first game here.

The rule changes from last week look to have worked. The pro subbing rule was something the SPL needed due to the shortness of the games and although the tie rule wasn't needed this week now that everyone knows about it there's no controversy about what happens in tied games.

There was another rule change that I didn't agree with though, although I completely understand why Beef had to do it. Assassins played right from the start rather than just defending their title in the final game. This was done because in week 2 Ass almost no-showed after having to wait approx. three hours for the games to be played out to the final. This takes away the pyramid aspect of the league, but it is better than the reigning SPL champs no-showing. Maybe a compromise would to give the squad the option of waiting until the final or playing from round 0.

Beef has put up the sign up thread for week 4, which also contains all the SPL rules and info you need. Go here to get your squad signed up. Games will start next Saturday at 3pm EST.

AML Round 2 Predictions

As promised last week, here's my predictions for round 2 of AML. My IML predicts should be up in the next couple of days and if I have enough time I may also slap together something for Pro.

I'm pretty much predicting blind here as I've only seen one game in AML so far this season. Maybe I should bring back the Blindometer, it worked for me when I was banned. Still, if a deep knowledge in the squads and the player base was a requirement for doing predictions then I'd never do any. Ever. The game I saw was pretty worthless as an indicator anyway as it was the BU vs Warlords game last Sunday where WL only showed three and played most of the game with two after freakmonger lagged out.

The MVP of round 1 was SkyRakers' JackMove who went 6-2 with 2 KO's, 2 assists and 8 forced reps in their 12-5 win over StarFire Academy. It's hard to pick out an LVP of the round without MR ratings, but looking at the logs I would have to pick Burnt Special (FnD) who subbed in for Deuce Deuce then died out nine minutes later going 0-2 with a wasted rep.

So here's the return of the Vorbometer to AML, which this week is brought to you by the Vader Sessions:

Fly-NDie (0-1) vs StarFire Academy (0-1)

Both these squads are coming off losses last week. FnD going down to ReDS was less of a surprise than how easily SFA were handled by SkyRakers. FnD are going to be lead on the field by Sagum. The question is can he get the support from the rest of his squad? Against ReDS the answer was no. Sagum went 3-3 in the game, the other four FnD'ers who played combined for three kills. If Editor gets active that will help them but their #3 and #4 slots look weak and that's going to keep them out of the top two (there's no playoffs this season in AML. All squads play each other three times then the top two move onto the three game championship series).

SFA on paper look like they should cruise into a top two spot. Divide and H.A.M are two players that should be able to thrive in the new AML and should get good support from a deep roster. The problem seems to be activity. H.A.M did show to the game, and managed to go 0-3, although Worker beat him to the LVP by dieing out first. There's so many SFE practicing - and they can't all be from the IML roster- I'm surprised that they didn't get a good showing.

All this makes the game hard to call. If the best of each squad shows then SFA should win, but if we get the same kind of showing as last Sunday then I'd favour FnD more. I'd be surprised to see two bad SFA performances in a row so I'm going to pick them in a squeaker

Vorbometer: 12-10 StarFire Academy
Key players: H.A.M (SFA), Sagum (FnD)
Watch out for: H.A.M grabbing the MVP and making up for last week's 0-3.

ReDS-AML (1-0) vs Warlords (0-1)

ReDS looked good in their win over FnD - I didn't actually see them, just read the log, but 'ReDS read good in their win over FnD' sounds stupid. They have three good starters in Super Bunny (who dropped down from ReDS IML), Papa T and Army and the rest of the roster should be able to handle keeping the #4 slot alive.

You already know what happened to Warlords. I think that they were the first victim of the new scheduling rules. WL have always liked to play games late, but BU are a Euro team. The bad news for WL is that this Sunday's game will also be played at 5pm EST. Even with a full showing ReDS would be a tough task to break down, another showing like last Sunday and Warlords would be wiped out inside ten minutes. An 0-2 start wouldn't be as disastrous as it would be in IML or Pro with the schedule this season in AML, but the pre-season favourites of most people are looking a little dodgy right now.

Vorbometer: 12-4 ReDS
Key players: Super Bunny (ReDS), Sacred Remedy (WL)
Watch out for: Anyone on Warlords actually showing.

SkyRakers (1-0) vs BENCHERS UNITE (1-0)

This should be that match of the round as it's the only one that features two teams coming off wins in round 1. It's hard to measure BU though as their match against WL didn't really show anything. BU were the most active of the AML squads in the run up to the roster lock and they do have some strong names signed up. The question against them is have they played enough together to compete with the big squads in AML? BU could be one of those squads who get better through the season as the player's get used to each other.

SkyRakers are a real throwback to the old AML in that they're a one man squad. They just let their aliased ringer do all the work while the rest of the squad tries not do die out. That description isn't entirely fair as the aliased ringer isn't really aliased or a ringer at all. JackMove (Belt) has been on SR for a long time, but I am surprised that he got a ranking that let's him play in AML - and considering I'm on the AML rankings panel that's saying something.

I think SkyRakers' season could be the opposite of BENCHERS UNITE's. They should get a lot of big wins early in the season before the rest of the squads find them out and realise that if they ignore JackMove and focus on the other three slots SR are an easy squad to beat. Of course if all the AML squads are reading this then SkyRakers won't win another game this season. That's the kind of power I wield.

Vorbometer: 12-8 SkyRakers
Key players: JackMove (SR), 1st (BU)
Watch out for: A lot of posts in a couple of weeks on the AML forums asking how JackMove got an AML rating.

A Muther F'R' Squizes The Trigger

I've just been browsing a few ss sites this afternoon and I found what has to be the thread of the year on the Alpha forums. A little snippet:

A number of years ago identity theft wasn't a big issie. I will get your name, your address, your SSN, your date of birth, your mother's mainden name, everything that is needed. Every nigger from NY to Florida will have 10 credit cards open in your name and a house loan.

And hey, when your wife and kid asks why life sucks, you can tell them that you're a bone headed low life who stood up for your lying friend.

Last week he lyied to get me banned, you did nothing. This week you are going to experience your policy deep inside your ass.

There are ways around the ban. For example. I can play on my laptop using a different name. Or I can remove the client on my desktop and install it using a different hardware id. So not a big deal.

What is a big deal (for you) is that you're fucked now. And it's sad, since I don't think you realize the extend of what kind of information I can get on you through your county's public records. I'll collect as much as necessary for someone to ruin your credit and impersonate you, then post it. If you think this is just a joke and nothing will happen, it's ok.

I'll check back today exactly at 2000. If you're continue to remain a bone head, well I just happen to have a baretta in your mouth, I'll squize the trigger, your wife and kid and yourself can collect the fruits of it for the remainder of your natural lifes.

This guy makes DeathKnight, ZDX and Don Cherry look stable. You can read the whole thing here.

WZL Winners Banner

When you first enter SSCX Warzone CTF there's always a banner at the top of the screen of the current WZL champions. With season 14 ending the banner has just changed. As the banner is only displayed for a few seconds I thought I'd let you check it out here too. Of course this has nothing to do with the winning squad just hapenning to be the squad I play for....

Premier League Transactions

For the last few seasons there's been two roster locks in Premier League covering Pro, IML and AML. From the start of round 1 of the regular season the rosters are locked. That means there's no more player movement between squads. If you're on a roster at that point you cannot switch teams, or leave your current team until the season is over. Players who are not on a roster can still be added to rosters by the league ops though. Then from round 4 onwards the full roster lock is in effect and no more players can join a squad.

The only amendment to this rule is if a squad joins a league during the season. At the discretion of the ops a new squad can take players from other rosters even if the lock is in effect. A good example of this is in AML a few seasons ago when ShitFuck replaced a dropped squad and most of their roster came from BlackNike. It looks like Integral are going to be added to IML in the next couple of weeks and although it looks like they already have a solid looking roster they may be allowed to take rostered players from other squads.

In the days leading up to the first roster lock there can be quite a bit of activity. So here's a quick round up of the transactions in Premier leading up to round 1:

Pro League

aiti
(left Unhallowed, joined Assassins)
I should say re-joined. Aiti, according to him, is going to be inactive in Pro this season which is why, according to him, he's back on Ass. He was at their game yesterday, but didn't play. So Mop just had to settle for Dingo, Travis, brut and Bhang. Poor guy.

Sage (rejoined Exultant)
Sage actually asked for an AML rating, which he got (mostly I think as the ranking panel thought he was Sage_ from NW. As most of you know I'm on the AML ranking panel. I didn't rank Sage though as I haven't really seen him play and didn't know enough about him to give a yes or no on his appeal). But the most interesting thing about him is that he's ended back on Exultant after this post on the IML forums by Mr>$MOOTH.

roark (left Sterling)

7-Eleven (joined Sterling)

Tipsy Turtle (still on fucking Sterling)
Cloud>hv reminds me of a young cloud
Cloud>with less skill

Dantos (joined BIA)

Anamalech (joined BIA)
Me and Anam started playing subspace at around the same time and were on the same newbie Alpha squad together. Now I'm back aliased on an AML squad fighting for playing time, while he's going to be the key starter for BIA's playoff run. I hate you Jekyll =(

Bob Marley (rejoined Starseed)

BrokeStatus (joined Poke Her)

Pseudo (joined Creation)

IML

Kinetics
(left Secret, joined Nightwatch)

Lemon Herb (joined Nightwatch)

targeter2 (joined FutureCrew)
targeter is pretty much a fulltime pb player now so it makes sense that he's ended up on FC

Br'er (left Prospect, joined Prospect, left Prospect, joined Prospect)
Well ... not really. But he did go on a name changing frenzy yesterday.

Jamuraan (left Secret, joined Liquid Inc.)

Kepi (joined Secret)
It's a shame Secret don't run a squad in AML anymore. Kepi could sub in for them during a match and get them thrown out of the playoffs. Ah ... good days.

Ho (left Striker)

LadyGaladriel (joined Liquid Inc.)

magic (joined Fly-NDeath)

noobie (joined Fly-NDeath)

AML

There's not much player movement in AML basically for two reasons. First of all this season AML is the smallest of the three leagues so that means less roster spots and less transactions as a whole. The second reason is the AML Rankings Panel. Players with a Pro or IML rating from past seasons who want to move down or players who have yet to get a rating need to be submitted by their caps to the ranking panel first to get a yes or no before they can be added to a roster. For this reason most of the player movement in AML happened well before the lock.

Nugaa & Toffe (joined BENCHERS UNITE)

Darq (joined BENCHERS UNITE)

Meekus (left StarFire Academy)

Pvc (left StarFire Academy)

Panny. (joined StarFire Academy)

vicious (left ReDS-AML)

Super Bunny (left ReDS, joined ReDS-AML)
DEMOTED!!!!11!ONE

Dueling Ladder

This was posted today by Rage on the Pro forums:

I am trying to make a REAL dueling ladder instead of this stupid bot we have now. I will be using Case's Ladder system, it is old, but it has proven to work in the past. If anyone wants to help me with this let me know. I have the admin passwords and everything. The link is myleague.com/dzladder/. If you plan on competing in this ladder go ahead and register a name, and I will get it started by next week or so.

You can read the full thread here.

Update

The ladder has already started. You can check out the current leaderboard here and marvel at my dueling suckage.

GetContinuum Goes Live

The new Subspace entry site GetContinuum.com has gone live, although it's still a work in progress. Over the next couple of days expect to see some tweaks to the text plus one line descriptions of all the zones listed, but so far it looks good.

Site designer Mildred has opened a thread on the WZ forums asking for feedback. If you have any suggestions you can post them here.

IML Round 1 Predictions

When I first started this blog, during the start of the last Premier league season, one of the main reasons for doing it was that I was going to bring back my predictions. I ended up not doing any at all. but now with the blog back and the start of the Premier League regular season this Sunday I bring you the first full Vorbometer predictions in around three seasons.

As there's less squads this season I may do predictions in all three league. As there's only going to be a maximum of three games per week in AML I will most likely start predicting them from next week, but for this week it's just IML as that's all I have time to do.

So here's how the Vorbometer sees Round 1 of IML, which this week is brought to you by Armi & Danny aka Mauler & Caerbannog.

CR Virgins vs Fly-NDeath

Last season CRV finished the regular season 4-3 before going out in the first round of the playoffs to eventual champs Invidium while FnD won the new look AML (which in reality is the old look Spring League while the current look IML is supposed to be the old look AML, but with the current squad numbers it resembles the old look IML).

Both these squads bring pretty much the same rosters as last season with just a few tweaks. CRV are lead on the field by the CAPS LOCK KIDS DATAH, KURAH, PARAH and LUNAH. The unholy tankage of DATAH is particularly a site to behold. FnD are led on the field by ..... well actually I don't know as I haven't seen them play this season. These squads played each other in pre-season where CRV came out with an easy 12-2 win. I don't foresee Sunday's result being much different to that.

Vorbometer: 12-3 CRV
Key players: DATAH (CRV) Holly Molly (FnD)
Watch out for: The spectacular return, followed by the immediate meltdown and ?squadleave, of Don Cherry

FutureCrew vs Striker

Striker actually have a decent roster if some of their big names (bho, Felony, majeure, Win) become active and my expectations of Brave as a 4v4 captain have gone up since I noticed he put Speed on the inactive list. Striker are one of those squads that have a chance of going all the way or could implode. Just look at their pre-season results. Opening with a 12-7 win over CRV, then only showing three and losing 12-0 to SFE the next week. Their whole season could be like that.

FutureCrew seem to be the designated powerball squad in 4v4 this season, but unlike previous pb squads the only thing they're favourites to do is drop out half way through the season. Their best player by far is the seven year itch, but I just can't see where he's going to get the support from. If this is the future of IML I might as well kill myself now.

Vorbometer: 12-4 Striker
Key players: Felony (Striker), the seven year itch (FC)
Watch out for: Brave's parents. They're famous in Spain you know.

IMLlamasery vs StarFire Elite

IMLlamasery belong in AML. StarFire Elite belong in Pro. You do the math.

Vorbometer: 12-1 SFE
Key players: bushes (llamas), Garcon (SFE)
Watch out for: llamas in AML and SFE in Pro at the start of next season.

Liquid Inc. vs Secret

When it comes to 4v4 it's very easy to find out how LI's season is going to go. Just check their roster. If More Majorum isn't on it then they are going to suck. If he is on it then they're going to go to the playoffs. Trust me, it's that easy. As MM is on this season's roster LI are heading for a playoff spot.

Secret are another team I haven't really seen much of so far so it's hard for me to say how they will do this week. Though like LI it's easy to see how their season is going to go. With Secret is down to activity. If their vets are all showing and practicing then they will compete. But if they're only turning up to games while spending the rest of the week taking the grandkids to trips to the zoo and tending their prize winning petunias then it could be a long season. Finishing the pre-season 0-3 is not a good sign.

Vorbometer: 10-7 LI
Key players: More Majorum (LI), Nocarbon (Sec)
Watch out for: cose's prize winning petunias.

Nightwatch vs ReDS

I've managed to get through these predicts so far without a single football analogy, which has to be a record for me. I'm not going to break it here, but I do have a subspace analogy for you. NW remind me of Warlords just before they lost most of their starters to Dissent. They're a good squad who's best days are behind them and have gone stale. After a couple more seasons in the cellar Warlords managed to regroup by following the llama playing model. No sign of life in NWland however.

It's easy to blame Covert Agent for this because ..... well, because it's his fault. Years of hostility of anything not called IML by the worst league sysop ever has let NW pass their sell-by date as an upper level IML squad when they should of moved up and faced a fresh challenge. Energy view isn't going to help them this season. I'd be very surprised if they win a single game.

ReDS' season hasn't really started yet. After a bye in pre-season round 1 they took on NW in round 2, stomping them 12-1 before taking apart llamas 10-2 in round 3. Their season really starts next week when they face Prospect (who have a bye this round).

Vorbometer : 12-1 ReDS
Key Players: Tarnished Silver (NW), Madness (ReDS)
Watch out for: NW avoiding the shutout due to a P-Mav teamkill.

Premier League Week 1 Schedule

It's the start of the regular season in all three leagues this coming Sunday. It was also the first time that the new scheduling rules were used. It seemed to have worked OK first time out, with only one squad with a problem. That was AML Euro squad BENCHERS UNITE vs Warlords, who's original scheduled time of 6est was changed to 5est.

So here's all of Sunday's match-ups, along with the MR point spread. All times are in EST:

Group Squad Analysis

Aiti has brought together the great and good from pro to rank all the squads going into the regular season. Some funny shit there, with my favourite being:

"the dark would be better if odin stops being a pussy and say shit like 'we're just hoping to make it to rnd 1 of playoffs keke'. He needs to treat pro like an armenian treats his mother, and grab it by the throat and tell it what to do."

Odin's Pro League Pre-Season Recap

It's been a busy day over on e7. As well as life's player rankings you can also find Odin's Pro League pre-season recap where he looks back at how the squads and players have performed and looks ahead to the start of the regular season. As always it's a very interesting read and you can check it out here. Although you can make comments on the blog I'd expect to see most of the feedback on the thread Odin started on the pro boards which you can read here.

Life's Pro League Player Rankings

Life has just put up his first set of player rankings of the season on e7. You can check them out here and read the feedback to them on the Premier forums here. How he can not have HV ranked at the bottom of the bottom three I don't know, apart from that it looks like a pretty fair list.

Saturday Pyramid League Week 2 Results

Assassins stayed atop of the pyramid for the second straight week on Saturday defeating Poke Her in the final. Here's how all the games went:

Round 0

Unhallowed bt BIA 1-0

BIA no-showed

CR Virgins bt FutureCrew 12-6
MVP: LUNAH (CRV) 4-1
LVP: Chief (FC) 0-3
game log

Poke Her bt Llamasery 9-7
MVP: Arch (PH) 3-0
LVP: Crunchy+ (llamas) 1-3
game log

SFE bt NightBane 12-6
MVP: kev (SFE) 2-1
LVP: Hooker with a Penis (NB) 0-3
game log

Round 1

Unhallowed bt CR Virgins 12-9

MVP: Nova (Unh) 6-2
LVP: Grifter (Unh) 0-3
game log

Poke Her bt StarFire Elite 12-5
MVP: zoo (PH) 3-1
LVP: G o G o (SFE) 0-3
game log

Round 2

Poke Her bt Unhallowed 7-7 (tie rule)

MVP: Tool (Unh) 5-1
LVP: life (Unh) 0-2
game log

Final

Assassins bt Poke Her 10-9

MVP: aiti (Ass) 4-1
LVP: Enemy (Ass) 2-3
game log

If you read the final two logs you'll see that there was some confusion and controversy about the tie rule in the Unh/PH game. How it works is if the game is a tie after 30 minutes then the team that scored the first kill wins. I personally like it - it's the same rule that was used in Gladiator League and it worked well there. I think the main problem was that the players didn't know about it until after the game was over, despite it being spammed. As long as the ref informs the two squads at the start of the match I don't think that this will be a problem again.

The other rule that people didn't like was that the squads were allowed two full-ship subs. With the games being only 30 minutes long this didn't work well and from next week Beef is going back to Pro subbing rules (all subs are burnt expect for one minute after a death) for the tourney.

After only two weeks in existence, a couple of minor rule problems aside, the tourney has been a great success. Beef has put up the sign-up thread for squads to compete in next week's tourney. You can check it out here. The games will start from 3pm EST this coming Saturday in SSCX Chaos/League SVS and the blog will have all the results and stats when they're released.

Wing Cutter has just posted this on the WZ forums:

Over the next two weeks we will be holding scrims/practices/tryouts in Chaos zone so players can get used to the game and so captains can get a look at players. If you think people won't know who you are then it would be good to show up on as many days as possible.

When?

Thursday July 20 @ 8 PM Est in Chaos zone ?go wzcup

Sunday July 23 @ 2 PM Est in Chaos zone ?go wzcup (Start of WZ Cup Draft!)

Thursday July 27th @ 8 PM Est in Chaos zone ?go wzcup

Sunday July 30 we start with Preseason matches with set teams.

Remember the draft will be open all season until playoffs! Pilots will be added where necessary!

Check out the arena if you want to have a peak at the map. So far the confirmed squads are DOMINATION, Elder Clan, NightBane and Opulence with 89 players already signed up. You can read the whole WZ Cup thread here, which includes all the info you need to get yourself or your squad registered.

And Your New WZL Champions Are...

... elderslayers. After one hour and sixteen minutes of gametime ec took their second WZL title yesterday defeating Gust and DAMN_Yankees in four games. In doing so they probably set a new SS record in the gap between title wins as they are now season 1 and season 14 champs.

The playing style of WZ league games are determined in the first five minutes or so when the flags are distributed between the three squads. Yesterday ec grabbed 7 flags from the go then took them to the bottom left base while DY took the remaining flag to the castle at centre right. At the start of the game Gust only had half their freq filled (five players) so it was unlikely that they would look to take flags and hold a base at the start.

This flag distribution meant that Gust and DY were hitting es hard to take the flags, while es looked to counter at DY when they'd defended the attack and the other squads were greening. es' D held strong for almost an hour under this onslaught before DY finally got through. They managed to wall kill out six flags, while Gust's flank flew in behind them to take the remaining one and the base.

The focus now switched to DY's base. Gust's freq was now up to eight and they were hitting them hard, led by Red Cross' spider along with es (led by Tak and More Majorum), DY did lose the base to es at one point, but took it back.

While this was going on, More Majorum took Gust's single flag and then using a double teamkill move (which I missed as I was speccing the other base) es took DY's base and zinj escaped with the flags. It was now a case of zinj running with the flags, while the rest of the team protected More Majorum. Unfortunately with only seconds left before the win MM had to make a kill which reset the flag timer and with the extra time the base was lost when Ra killed him. By now es had set up at the centre top base with the remain 7 flags and the winning move was called.

es called a thor turret on Gust's flagroom. Ra had no chance. The kill was made by ec squad cap Wing Cutter. It was then a matter of getting the whole squad back to the base and defend the flags for the win. Which is exactly what happened. Here's the box score:

There's no rest for the WZ staff though. With the end of WZL the zone goes straight into preparation for the start of the cross zone WZ Cup. There should be a lot of news this week about which squads are taking part and how the draft will work. I've already noticed that there's a WZ Cup bot up in Chaos/league. So expect a few posts here about it this week.

WZL Finals Review and Game 4 Preview

While the blog's been inactive season 14 of WZL has gone on and this Sunday at 2pm EST in ?go league in SSCX Warzone CTF will see the deciding game 4 of the finals series.

Taking part in the match are the four time champion all-Finnish squad Gust, the veteren mostly South American squad DAMN_Yankees and #1 seed elderslayers - a squad made by the merger of Elder Clan and darkslayers, as well as being the squad I play for.

So what's happened in the finals series so far vorbis? Since you asked so nicely I'll tell you. Gust took game 1:

Opposing team won (5400 points given)

In game 2 it was DAMN_Yankees who ate the victory cake:

I think you can work out what happened in game 3. If elderslayers hadn't of won we wouldn't be having a game 4:

So it all comes down to one game this Sunday. A deciding game in a WZL finals is always interesting to watch. You can only take the game by a flag win - there's no overtime or time limit. A squad could take a surprising win inside the first ten minutes or it could turn into a real war of attrition over several hours.

There's no real favourite in this match. Gust have the experience of past final wins, DY have the 56k connections from São Paulo and es have my leet terrier defense. Check it out this Sunday at 2est.

The Future of SVS

Mizerie has started a thread on the Premier League forums asking for feedback on how Chaos pub should be changed. Of course I couldn't miss out on an opportunity to write another one of my essays about my thoughts on how Subspace, or at least SVS, should be run. Here's what I said:

Miz, the only thing the staff should be thinking about right now is ASSS. Get Chaos/League on ASSS as the first step to a single SVS zone. WZ will be able to join as the problem of who gets the public spawn is moot as WZ can appear on the zone list. Same thing for Alpha.

Plus you can get Premier League back on the zone lists too. Have one 4v4 spawn called Premier League, add it to the zone lists then play the big games in there on Sunday and prac there during the week. The only thing the staff should be thinking about right now is ASSS and not just Chaos and Prem staff. Another thing ASSS would be able to let us do is have pub spawns for finals appear on the zone lists too.

Getting Chaos/League and eventually WZ and Alpha in the same zone on ASSS would do a hell of a lot more for SVS than making changes to Chaos pub. As things stand now league is not going to move anywhere. WZ can't move to Chaos under Subgame as it needs to be the public spawn and that is just not going to happen. The WZ Cup is a good idea and WZ league games can be hosted anywhere. Alpha is still the best entry zone for new players, it still works and it still needs to be a zone in it's own right. ASSS is the logical next step. Then we can have a single SVS zone with the following spawns appearing on the zones list:

SSCX Alpha West (current alpha zone)
SSCX Chaos Zone (current chaos pub)
SSCX Premier League (?go 4v4a)
SSCX Warzone CTF (current wz)
SSCX Dueling Arizona (?go 2v2)
SSCX Turf Arizona (OK, That's just me daydreaming)

Then keep the other spawns as sub arenas (duel, battle, scrabble, chess etc.). Although you wouldn't need all the sub arenas. for example you'd only need one from ?go duel and ?go battle I'd also suggest changing the names too:

SVS Alpha West
SVS Chaos Zone
SVS Premier League and so on.

Miz, you really need to speak to Devoit/BlueGoku and find out what HZ has done on ASSS in a very short space of time, and with the PB guys also. This is what I would be doing now:

1. Start an ASSS SVS test zone
2. Get every SVS zone sysop involved in the development of it.
3. Start an SVS website (I'd be willing to help there).

I really don't know the SVS upper staff's views on ASSS. I've heard that Ghost Ship isn't in favour of it, dunno if that's true or not. I know Wonderer isn't in favour of WZ moving to Chaos/League right now, but that's because WZ needs to be the pub spawn. I don't know his views on ASSS. I haven't spoken to Bargeld in a long time so I have no clue on his views about ASSS, but I can remember when I floated the idea of running AML in Alpha with Pro/IML in Chaos on the Alpha forums he wasn't against it in principle.

You can read the full thread here.
