IML Round 2 Predcitions

Before I get into it a couple of corrections from last week. First of all CR Virgins didn't get knocked out of the playoffs last season by Invidium. That match was in the make-up round which meant that CRV finished the season at 4-4 and missed out on the playoffs. Also ReDS didn't have a bye in the first round of the pre-season, the result wasn't put up on MR for some reason They beat Liquid Inc.

Well the return of the Vorbometer saw me going 3-2. The two I got wrong were Secret's 12-1 hammering of Liquid Inc and Nightwatch topping ReDS in OT. The main thing I got wrong last week though was the size of the scores. LI/Sec aside the games were fairly tight with two match-ups decided in overtime. The round MVP was - according to blur's round 1 player rankings - Kejami of Nightwatch. He went 3-1 with 1 KO, 1 forced rep and the game winning OT kill on Blasteroids. Personally I would pick P-Mav as the MVP from the same game. His stats were 2-1, but he was a hero in OT as he saved Blasteroids once by repping for him and almost saved him a second time when, despite also being at 0 reps himself, he threw himself in front of Blasteroids and tried to draw NW's fire. I foresee a future career in the Secret Service. As I said in my AML predicts it's hard to pick a single LVP of the round without MR ratings, so I'm just going to go for Blasteroids who before getting splatted in OT went 0-2 with 3 forced reps.

So here's my predicts for Round 2 of Intermediate space squad combat league, which this week is brought to you by Armi and Danny (aka Mauler & Caerbannog) doing Motorhead:

CR Virgins (1-0) vs FutureCrew (0-1)

Peen> Vorbis did not mention me in his predicts :(
vorbis> it's your own fault for not having your name in caps
Peen> lol
Peen> I am the evil CR mutant from hell, and I expect I mention in the next round of playoffs
Peen> er regular season
vorbis> logged, for round 2 predicts
Peen> $

Vorbometer: 12-5 CR Virgins
Key players: Peen (CRV), the seven year itch (FC)
Watch out for: Peen. He's the evil CR mutant from hell.

IMLlamasery (0-1) vs Striker (1-0)

An open letter to Intermediate llamas,

This time last week in my opening IML predictions I wrote this single line concerning your game:

IMLlamasery belong in AML. StarFire Elite belong in Pro. You do the math. 12-1 SFE

I made this despite knowing the history of your squad and also despite tipping professional llamas to be competitive in their first season. The reason for this is, of course, the llama playing model (patent pending). With the llama playing model (patent pending) in full effect you are never going to get blown out in any game and will always compete for the full 45 minutes no matter who the opposition are. I should of taken this into account before making that round 1 prediction. The roster may be significantly weaker than intermediate llamas of the past, but it's never been about the individual llama. With the llama playing model (patent pending) in full effect the four become one - a Mecha Llama if you will.

I don't understand how I could of overlooked this last week and got my prediction so horribly wrong. It's that 'No Data to win in an exciting game' debacle all over again. Please let me take this opportunity to apologise to all llamas; intermediate, professional and alpha public.

Yours, Vorbis

Vorbometer: 5-3 IMLlamasery
Key players: bushes (llamas), Serrate (Stkr)
Watch out for: The llama playing model (patent pending)

Liquid Inc. (0-1) vs StarFire Elite (1-0)

Liquid Inc. belong in AML. StarFire Elite belong in Pro. You do the math. Although after saying that maybe LI's performance in round 1 isn't that much of an indicator of how the rest of their season is going go: This is a reply from Tajatte on the Premier forums on neef's (inferior) predictions thread:
Liq Inc started 3 guys, Silly_n00b was alt tabbed (while playing) for a long time trying to get their 4th on the roster so it was basically 4 vs 2 for some time. By the time they finally got their 4th in Secret took one out almost right away.

The game was a mess for LI and 12-1 was very flattering number for Secret, I am sure that if LI had 4 from the start we would have lost as usual (and expected)
I still stand by my statement of last week that LI always do well in seasons when More Majorum is on the roster, but right now I don't think they're ready to face a squad with the individual skill, experience and depth of SFE. With a lot of practice they could be ready in about 2009

Vorbometer: 12-3 StarFire Elite
Key players: More Majorum (LI), Garcon (SFE)
Watch out for: Me giving up on the More Majorum Corollary (patent pending) by next week.

Nightwatch (1-0) vs Secret (1-0)

Rumours of Nightwatch's death have been greatly exaggerated. By me. So Covert Agent is back playing and suddenly NW is performing at the level they've been at for the last few seasons. I'm sure it's just a coincidence though as I can't think of a single reason how the reappearance of CA would improve their gameplay so much in such a short space of time

The More Majorum Corollary may be looking a little dodgy but the Secret Activity Indicator is working at 100%. Their vets are practicing regularly and that's showed in their results so far. Kepi has been a good pick up for the departing Kinetics (to NW) and Jamurann (to LI), although I gather his English accent still sucks. As long as Secret stay active they should make the playoffs.

I haven't actually seen Secret play yet this season, so I'm going to pick NW in another battle that will be decided in OT. Also by picking NW maybe Czechmate will stop blaming me for the Middle East crisis.

Vorbometer: 9-8 Nightwatch
Key players: Covert Agent (NW), Kepi (Sec)
Watch out for: Nightwatch's impeccable teamwork. Remember there's no I in energy view. Team!, I mean team. There's no I in team. Phew, I think I got away with that one.

Prospect (0-0) vs ReDS (0-1)
$$$ game of the week $$$

Prospect come out of their opening round bye week to face ReDS who jump out of the Nightwatch frying pan into the Prospect fire (like that idiom? I'm on a motherfucking roll today.). Pros might suit ReDS more however as they are a much more aggressive team and their playing style should suit their better players like Madness and P-Mav.

It's hard to rank where Prospect stand right now without seeing them in the regular season. SFE have the deepest roster in IML, but arguably Prospect have a stronger starting four. After saying that though any team that has DeathKnight on it's roster isn't going to win a 2 dimensional spaceship title, it goes against the laws of physics. Prospect do have the talent who could get them over even that, although the space/time rip that a DK championship win would open up will cause reality to cease instantly. I'm sure he thinks it would be worth it.

There's no chance of this match going into OT. This will be like two heavyweight boxers throwing bombs at each other until a KO. Should make for an exciting game to watch and this is a match that really could go either way. I'm leaning towards Prospect purely because I like who they can play in the #4 slot as opposed to who ReDS have.

Vorbometer: 12-11 Prospect
Key players: Chronic (Pros), Madness (ReDS)
Watch out for: The Vorbometer fucking up yet again as ReDS hold on for a 3-1 win in OT and the spec freq commits mass suicide.
