So after the mess of the first two games CRV went on to take the title in OT. The deciding kills game down to the special count. SFE had no players with reps going into the last five minutes which allowed datah to kill Divine so SFE went in OT needing two kills and finally Steve_Z rocketing The Deist- for the winning kill.

In AML as expected SR no-showed their two make-up games and handed the second spot in the finals to SFA, but as SFA went on to beat FnD the finals spot would of been there's anyway. The three series final will start this Sunday with FnD taking on SFA, but all eyes will be in Pro where the Pro Bowl between Assassins and Unhallowed will be played in full.

IML Finals Appeal Result

The appeal is in, here's how it went:

Appeal: The bot specced all players prematurely due to an improper setting on behalf of the ref staff. This resulted in one team losing a repel advantage.

Decision: Denied by vote (5-1; Voting Parties: Rost, Mizerie, WarEngine, Demishadow, blur, Crunchy)

Reason: This case was close enough to our precedents of egregious ref error that resulted in a resetting of items midgame. In multiple prior cases, the ref made a keystroke error that nullified an advantage for one side. That is the same case here. Historically, in these games all players were burned and the remainder of the match was played out as there is no way of knowing the status of every item for every player. Loss of team morale or percieved purpose of the game is not grounds for an appeal.

Remember when I said I was only half-watching this game as I was more interested in the Broncos/Colts game? Well it turns out I missed something pretty big. After everyone was specced from the OT fuck up, the staff actually decided to restart OT with everyone burned and SFE went on to get the winning kill.

That was what the appeal was about, not the original OT time mess. So the series is tied at 1-1 and game 3 will start at 4est on Sunday. Meanwhile this thread has a good chance of beating frowzy's 'hated' thread as the longest ever on the forums.

Arnk has been busy fixing bugs left and right this week and he's found a pretty critical one. It has to do with objects and thus the scoreboard module has been removed for now. You may also notice the zone is less laggier than before, as the bug also caused a memory leak which made things considerably slower if the zone was up for a while.

We're just about ready to resume the regular season. Our crash issues have been solved (uptime of 4 days, woo) and Arnk is in the middle of setting up a few more people whom have volunteered to help with access to our codebase.

Brivulture or Chris69 will make an announcement once the league is ready to go. But like I said before, you'll have 5 days notice.

Again, sorry about all the server crap that's happened the past couple of weeks. So yeah, shave that rust off in pub(scrim) and get ready for some league play!

The big match of the round has been postponed until next Sunday. Optic asked if Unhallowed could push back the Pro Bowl to next Sunday as they would be missing some key players this Sunday. Assassins agreed so Pro sysop Nelson allowed them to do it providing they play all three games in the series that day.

It's more likely that game 2 will be replayed from the start and it's still not out of the question that the whole finals could be wiped and we go again from game 1. Soon as a decision has been made (expect it sometime today) I'll post it here.

In AML Fly-NDie have already secured a spot in next week's final. The second slot is between BU and SFA, with SFA being the favourite. All SFA have to do is win one game or for BU to lose one game to get in. For BU to make the final they have to win both their games and rely on SFA losing both of theirs. It all really comes down to what SkyRakers decide to do. From what's been written on the AML forum. It looks like they are going to forfeit both of their games and give the finals spot to SFA.

One of the things that players have missed from the old MasterRater was the lack of detailed player stats from games and practices. Despite what any of us say we're all stat whores in this game and love to check out our KPG average, W/L ratio, damage dealt and the ever popular wasted reps to solo kills rating (WRtSKR).

With that in mind Inde (Barbarian) has set up his own log parser to bring back prac stats. You can check it out here. The stats are updated every four hours. It's still a work in progress, but so far it looks and works really well. There isn't a player search function, but you can just change the name on the url to whoever's stats you want to view.

For example, the first player you see in the stats right now is fresh. If you click on his name you get this. You can now change the name in the url from fresh to who's stats you want to see, here's my league name. Just don't look at the prac stats for September where I finished with a rating of -50 on the month :(

Odin's Pro League Semi Finals Recap

This is also a good time for me to take a break, I don’t plan to participate in Pro next season. The Dark no longer needs me as a starter every weekend and I’ve been too busy to maintain my skill level at a point where I could compete against Assassins. TD has made good on it’s goals for the last couple of seasons, I think the team’s goal will be to beat Assassins next season and finally at least break into the finals. I am also interested to see how Premier will change, there is plenty of talk about doing a Pyramid league. For the sake of 4v4 I hope the transition is done.

IML Finals Recap

So what happened in the IML finals then? If you've checked out the screenshots I took then you probably already have some idea. Game 1 was as tight as expected. CRV got off to the best start taking a 4-1 lead after the first twenty minutes, but SFE pulled it back to 5-4 CRV with ten minutes left to play.

That's when the fun and games started. The server kicked a bunch of people, including all eight players. This was the second time this had happened that day, the first time was during the BU/SFA match in AML. As with that match when the players returned and re-entered they were all burned and it was treated as normal lagouts as the game had been played for too long to be restarted. I think the rule is that after ten minutes of playing then there's no restarts. A bit like how baseball handles rainouts.

But unlike the BU/SFA game the return wasn't as smooth. In that match all the players used !return to get back into the game and carried on playing with no more problems, just that everyone was now burned. In the IML game several players had problems returning immediately and had to use !return more than once. If you lag out, return, lag out again immediately, then return again that counts as two lag outs not one. If you lagout three times in a game you can't return and have to be subbed. That's exactly what happened to DATAH and he was subbed by Steve_Zissou.

Just to make things even more interesting the server burp happened just before the ten minute mark, when all subs are burned by rule. With the game looking like going to overtime both teams had made subs to keep their slots strong going into OT, but after the burp everyone was burned anyway cancelling out any specials advantage - as The DATAH sub happened after the ten minute mark Steve was burned.

The game continued and the next kill was on The Diest- by Ghostbuster17 to make it 6-4 CRV, which is a winning score. But The Diest now had specials. Mauler then killed Deadpulse to pull it back to 6-5 and give him specials and then with 21 seconds left The Diest- used his specials to kill Steve_Zissou to tie the scores and send the game in OT. Still with me?

Five minutes into the extra period Deadpulse killed kev and CRV took game 1 7-6 (box score - game log. The staff looked like they got away with it. If SFE had won then CRV could of appealed on the grounds the DATAH should never of been specced as all his lagouts came from the same server spike. SFE can't appeal the loss as the rule for mass lagouts is clear. So everyone is happy and we're off to game 2.

Now here's where it starts to get interesting.

The second game was even tighter than the first. At the end of regulation the score was 2-1 to SFE. Now, let's take a few moments to talk about how overtime works in 4v4. First of all to get a winning score you need to score at least six kills or lead by two clear kills at the end of regulation. So 6-5 is a winning score, so is 5-3, but 5-4 takes you to overtime. Of course any tied score means OT.

In the regular season OT is ten minutes long. If the two teams go into OT tied then the next kill wins. If the two teams go into OT at 5-4 then the losing team needs two kills and the leading team needs one. If there's no score after ten minutes then the game is a tie. That means if the two teams go into OT at 5-4 and there's no score then the result is a 5-4 tie. Stupid I know, but them's the rules.

Of course there's no time limit in the playoffs. So at this point SFE need one kill to tie the series at 1-1, while CRV need two kills to take the title. I hope you're still awake because here's where it gets complicated.

There's two ways for the bot to run unlimited OT. First of all there's a playoff template that can be loaded, which is what was supposed to happen last Sunday. It turned out that both games were played with the normal IML regular season template. That meant OT would of been ten minutes. There is a way around this however. A sysop can send a command to the bot to change the OT time. That's what was done in game 1. The OT was set to 83 minutes, giving plenty of time for the match to be played out. Here's what happened in game 2:

Once the game is over the bot specs everyone. So what happened? Well the bot time is measured in milliseconds and whoever changed the OT time missed a zero or two off the command, so instead of 49 minutes we got 49 seconds and no time for anyone to change it before the game eneded and everyone was specced. And who was that sysop?

Well it was Mauler.

Yep, the same Mauler who plays for StarFire Elite. The upshot of this is that there's about 2,000 threads on the IML forums, game 2 has been appealed by CRV and there's even talk of game 1 being replayed too.

As things stand right now SFE and CRV will play each other at 4pm EST this Sunday. But whether that's going to be a full replay of game 2, game 2 restarted at OT, game 1 restarted from the server spike or a full replay of game 1 isn't exactly clear.

I'm sure the staff will sort it out in the next couple of days......

So as expected the ProBowl will see the top two seeds Unhallowed and Assassins face each other. The AML Season is now over, with just the make-up round to play before the final. Fly-NDie are assured of a spot, but the second spot is still up for grabs between StarFire Academy and BENCHERS UNITE. For BU to get in they have to win their two make-up games and SFE have to lose both of their two. It's all going to come down to what SkyRakers decide to do. SR now have to play the games that were voided after JackMove was taken off the roster. As they can't make the finals it looks like they're just going to forfeit them. If that happens then SFA make the final.

First of all a reminder that there will be no RSHL games this Sunday. All HZ matches (RSHL and MSHL) are postponed until their server problems are fixed. Keep reading the blog and Center Ice to keep up with how HZ's server move is going and the current status of RSHL and MSHL. For the first time this post actually covers the whole weekend and not just Sunday.

Beef has brought back his Saturday Practice League. It starts at 3pm EST in Chaos and is open to all current and waiting list Premier League squads. It's a simple single elim knockout format to crown a champion, who then have the option to defend their title the following week. I'm not sure if the old champs Assassins will defend their title or just start with a new tourney. It was very successful when beef first ran it, but it might need a couple of weeks to get going again.

But the big games in Premier happen on Sunday with the Pro semi finals and the start of the IML championship series. Former AML champs StarFire Elite will face off against the (mostly) former Cosmic Rift players in CR Virgins to crown the best intermediate squad in SVS - not something to be sniffed at. It's a very close call. SFE have the experience, but CRV have been playing more consistently in the playoffs. I think this one will go the full three games. Game 1 will start at 4pm EST, with game 2 starting ten minutes after the first game is finished. If a game 3 is needed it will probably be played next weekend.

Pro league is one step behind IML and their semi finals will start this Sunday. BIA & Unhallowed starts at 2est then Assassins will take on The Dark at 7est. As with IML both matches are a three game series. Most people expect Unhallowed and Assassins to cruise through to the final, but BIA and TD have the pilots to throw a spanner in the works if they get a good showing.

Meanwhile in AML the regular season comes to an end with Fly-NDie and StarFire Academy looking favourites to take the top two spots in the standings and make the champion series. But with the make-up round still to come BENCHERS UNITE, ReDS-AML and Skyrakers can still get involved. SFA/BU and ReDS/SR take place at 3est, then FnD and Warlords face off at 5est. The table should be a lot clearer after those games. Check out the Premier League website for all the lastest news.

There's changes in this Sunday's Powerball draft event. With Stagnate unable to host for the next few weeks Phantasmal will take over and will use his map in ?go phant. Everything else will stay the same. Sign-ups will open at 6.30pm EST. Just enter SSCX Powerball and follow the instructions on the welcome message. The draft will start at 8.30est and then the games will start at 9est. The draft is open to anyone.

With the announcement of the WZ Invitational this week expect a bigger turnout at the WZL Scrim. The action starts at 8pm EST in ?go league in SSCX Warzone CTF. The scrims are still player-based and not squad-based, which means anyone can jump in and play. Also there's scrims held through the week at 10est on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

If like me you try to extend your weekend as far as it will go, then you'll also like to know about RZJPL this Tuesday at 9pm EST. 9-Volt has been doing a lot of work recently and it's well worth showing up for.

Hockey Zone Leagues Postponed

HZ right now is in a state of flux as they get ready to move off their current temporary home and move permanently to PrittK's server. Until the move is made and all the ASSS modules are back up and running there will be no RSHL or MSHL games.

You can keep up with all the HZ news at Center Ice. It does say on the site that only RSHL is postponed, but I can't see MSHL continuing if RSHL can't be played.

Big happenings over in RZJPL in the last few days. The re-organisation of the Prem forums has seen a RZJPL board added. Shanky has also given 9-Volt some webspace for a new RZJPL website. I've added it to our links although it's still under construction.

The other big news is the new map for last Tuesday's event. I wasn't around to play on it, but going on the feedback> it was a great success.

9 is looking for more new maps, as well as help with designing the new website. If you're interested in helping post on the new forums. Don't forget that RZJPL is held every Tuesday event at 9pm EST in ?go rzjpl in SSCX Chaos/League SVS and is open to everyone to just show up, hop in and play.

Hockey Zone Server News

Here's what's been going on with HZ's server move since I've been away. These are Center Ice news posts from zone sysop BlueGoku:

It looks like our server is a lot more laggier than we thought it would be, so I'm going to get us another one. We're probably going to go with the host TW uses, superbservers.net.

For now, I'm in talks with the SST owner to get us temporarily hosted there until we've got our new server ready to go. I'll let you guys know.

So again, sorry about the inconvenience. While the early MSHL games this weekend have been cancelled, we might be set up on the temporary server by tomorrow night so the RSHL games might still get played.

The temporary server is now up. Refresh your zone list to get the new zone's IP. Unfortunately we don't have our custom stuff working just yet, so it's just an SVS settings in a little SVS map. Although the good news is the billing is up.

So come in, kill some HZers and have some fun. Hopefully our stuff will be working by tomorrow night's games.

So again, this is the server we're probably going to be using until we've got another linux one fully tested and ready.

Sorry about not posting this sooner, I was at work all day yesterday when Arnk was able to get the server working and I couldn't check the site.

Made abit of a new version. most of the changes and additions are done as tests to see if it would work but might be fun for people to take a look.

biggest changes are:

support for AI's to play on your own team.
possible to play against and with all 8 ships (not much difference in the ships at the moment)
added a subspace style radar and menu
added bombs (but still no bomb formula)

To celebrate and honor 10 years of SubSpace/Continuum, the original MMOG that started it all, SSCX WarZone CTF will be hosting its first annual WZ Invitational Game. Please come represent your zone and compete against others in this new tradition to kick off the beginning of another decade of fun.

What is the WZ Invitational?

WZ Invitational is a single SVS Capture The Flag game. Each team that participates is a direct representation of a Zone of SubSpace/Continuum as each team will ONLY consist of players of that respective zone (i.e. EGvTWvWZvCZvSWZvMGvT3)

How many players should be recruited per team? How many teams are allowed?

It is suggested that at least 15 players and up to 30 should be on each team. This allows for each team to have an adequate amount of spectators and subs. One team ONLY will be allowed to represent their respective zone.

What should the Zone elected Captain do once he/she is selected?

Each team’s captain should contact Yzen at yzen@wzctf.net with a complete list of the team roster. Also a preferred day and time that will best accommodate his/her team should be submitted. The captain is responsible for getting his team ready with practice time (whether it privately scheduled with other teams or not) and direct coordination with this Event’s Coordinator (Yzen). Zone elected Captains are also responsible for management of their respective teams (rostering, communication with teammates, starting lineups, etc.).

How long will the game last for?

This Invitational game will have an unlimited time limit. Intense and competitive WarZone games have been known to last upwards in the range of 3 hours (although not common).

Are there any restrictions to gameplay?

No. Anything goes. Just remember that your team must collect all 8 flags and hold them for 60 seconds for the win.

Will there be a prize for the winning team?

Yes. A banner will be created and showcased in SSCX Warzone CTF main spawn arena which will depict the winning team. This will enable the winning zone bragging rights for having “The Best of the Best” of Subspace/Continuum flaggers until the next WZ Invitational. Any additional prizes or side bets optional and open for discussion.

When is the Invitational going to be held?

The Invitational game will be held no later than two weeks prior to WZL preseason (or WZAML). Plenty of time will be allotted from the date of this posting so that all teams will have adequate time to practice with SVS settings if they are not used to them.

Seems like every time I take a break things start happening in Subspace. There's the whole Hockey Zone server move thing, the Warzone invitational and over in Premier League it looks like the staff are finally going to change back to a pyramid.

I've been calling for this for a while now and it looks like their going to use the system I suggested back on the old Premier League blog where you still have playoffs. You run the pyramid over x number of rounds then you take the top squads for the Pro playoffs, the second tier for the AML playoffs and the third tier for the AML playoffs.

There's still some work to do. 4v4 rules will have to be consistent now, although in practice that only means roster size and the subbing rule. Do we go with Pro subbing, AML/IML subbing or a new rule (say two full ship subs, then all subs are burned)? As for rosters right now in Pro you have a roster limit of 12, in IML it's 15 active and 5 inactive and in AML it's 20. Using the IML system through all of Premier would be a good compromise.

There's a lot of discussion and open threads about this on the Pro and IML forums. I hope that this time the staff go through with it and take their time to get it right rather than just start a new season. With beef bringing back his practice league there's something for squads to do until the start of the new season.

With Underlord's bot now working it was the best event so far. The statbox really helps keep track of the flags and which freq is leading - which has been hard to track with only one squad freq and everyone else playing pub. Here's a few screenshots I took in between choking:

A day late with this post this week, but as all the events are tomorrow I think I've gotten away with it. The day starts in Premier League with some big games as Pro and IML move into the playoffs.

In Pro all eyes will be on the top two seeds. The top ranked Unhallowed face Creation at 4est, while Ass start their three game series against Starseed at 3est. Most people expect both squads to cruise through to the semis. The fireworks should come in the other two games. Poke Her and BIA face off from 4est while the final match in the round sees Llamasery against The Dark from 7est. With llamas history of taking games to overtime it could be a late finish.

It's an easier round for the top two teams in IML as they get a bye straight to the semis. They can sit back and watch the other teams face off. first up is the IML llamas who take on Fly-NDeath at 3est, followed by Prospect taking on surprise playoff team Nightwatch at 7est. Like Pro the IML matches are all best of three.

There's another triple header over in Hockey Zone this Sunday. The action starts at 8est when Phasers take on Slashers. Next up is table-topping Creasers who play Blueliners at 9est and the final game sees Rabid Tumbleweed against darkslayers at 10est.

Things are hotting up in Warzone with the new season of WZL closing in. The latest WZL pre-season scrim will take place this Sunday at 8est in ?go league. League op zerosouls as also announced scrims through the week too on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10est. A Euro-friendly time is also close to being scheduled. Remember these games are open to anyone to come and play. Also, if you haven't already, don't forget to register for the new season of WZL.

Over in Powerball the draft tourney is going from strength to strength. Last week saw the biggest sign-up yet and this Sunday we should have enough players to expand from fours teams to six. Sign-up's open up from 6.30pm EST for anyone who wants to play. Just follow the instructions on the welcome message as you enter the zone. The draft will start at 8.30 with the first round of games starting at 9est.

As usual we finish with a reminder about the latest RZJPL event, even though it's not strictly a weekend event. 9-Volt seems happy with the arena settings and is now working with Underlord on updating the bot. The event will start at 9est this Tuesday with Running Zone rules - that means there's a flag timer.

Vorbometer Predictions For IML Round 1 Playoffs

After all the fun and games of the make-up round, and Prospect finally matching up with CRV and SFE, the IML playoffs start this Sunday. Prospect lost both of those games so that means CRV and SFE get the top two seeds and a bye into the semi finals. This Sunday the #3 to #6 teams face-off against each of in a best of three series to try and join them.

So here's how the Vorbometer sees the first round the playoffs in IML and this week is brought to you by the worst resume ever.

#5 Fly-NDeath vs #4 IMLlamasery
(reg season: 6-2 llamas)
I'm tempted just to take what I wrote about Pro llamas in my predictions yesterday, copy & paste it here then search and replace 'Pro' with 'IML'. On the looks of things there's no real difference between the two llama squads. Both of them seem ready made for the playoffs as that's the style they've always used: tight, passive, lobbing, carving out a winning score and then defending it. The last three games llamas won all went to OT and only once during their whole season did a game go to 12 kills (12-4 over LI). Everything tightens up in the playoffs. More so in single elim than best of three, but even then everything slows down and pilots will not look to force anything as they don't want to make a mistake and get eliminated. Llamas play like this all the time.

There are two notable differences between the Pro and IML llamas in my view though, one positive and one negative. The negative is the lack of depth the IML llamas have. Unless they get a good showing they may have to rely on players like tenken^, Wado Kai and a seriously out of shape plumpy for long periods in matches. It's not very often llamas give you an obvious target to focus on, but with this roster you can get some good match-ups in the #3 and #4 slots.

The positive though is their top players. Llamas are not supposed to have stars. They're suppose to be the ultimate in 4v4 teamwork and play games while resting heavy objects on the backarrow key. But with bushes and Exactman llamas can actually appear aggressive at times. I know, an aggressive llama, who'd a thunk it? If they get into any kind of trouble on Sunday they know that bushes can engage the forwardarrow key and make something happen.

On the other side with have Fly-NDeath, who are the lukewarm water of the IML playoff squads this season. Everyone has been focused on the fight at the top between Prospect, CRV and SFE for the top two seeds and a first round bye and the fight at the bottom between NW, ReDS and FC for the final playoff spot. Meanwhile FnD has just sat in the middle, ignored by everyone. I hope they know they have a game on Sunday.

Thinking back I don't think I've actually think I've seen FnD play this season. Is everyone sure they even exist? I know they were in AML last season, but I haven't seen them play since. This is starting to make sense. There is no such squad as Fly-NDeath.

Watch out for: Fly-NDeath. Watch out as much as you like, you're not going to see them.

#3 Prospect vs #4 Nightwatch
$$$ Game of the Week $$$

The main event of the evening and quite possibly the highlight of the entire Premier League season as DeathKnight's playoff adventure begins. And ends. There's a few things going in his favour this season though, or at least for this round.

First of all Prospect are playing Nightwatch. Even if DK does collapse Prospect have more than enough ammunition to handle NW. Second is the fact that this round is best of three and not single elim. All of DK's best meltdowns have taken place in one-off games. Finally there's a pretty good chance that DK will get through this round unscathed and save up all his chokage for the semis. However it plays out here's few things to watch out for:

1. The DK Thor

Nothing more needs to be said. This move is famous throughout the civilised world and can pop up at any moment. The classic DK Thor though is just after a death when he fires it as soon as he respawns at nothing in particular.

2. The Warbird

The 'OMG I just died and I need to sc to a ship I haven't used all season in the squad's most important game' move. Also a classic ZDX move, but with him it's usually warbird, to weasel, to spider. With DK it usually happens on his last life when his brain has completely stopped functioning - a bit like when he's having sex with his wife.

3. KILL! KILL! KILL!

The choke is well set in now and the only way DK can crawl up out of this pit of suckitude is to get a kill and get it fast. Even if it means he has to use all his rockets one after the other, even if it means he has to use all his reps one after the other, even if it means he has to gun-duel all four of the other team at once, even if it means he has to go 0-3 inside five minutes in the attempt, even if it means .... oh =(

4. "What do you expect, look at the rest of Prospect"

Now we're getting into comedy gold territory. By now DK has choked out and he's up in the spec freq explaining to the rest of us exactly what we just saw with our own two eyes. You see, I didn't choke at all. I played the perfect game. It was my team-mates who let me down and my captain hasn't got a clue. We would of won IML if I wasn't surrounded by retards. In fact, I never wanted to play for Prospect at all. That's why I threw the game today. Btw, anyone starting a new squad next season and is looking for a weasel? I have great regular season stats.

5. "IT IS YOU WHO ARE THE BALL LICKERS!"

If there's anything better than DK going to spec after choking out to trash his team-mates who let him down, then it's DK going to spec after choking to absolutely unload on anyone and everything - specially the opposition. The best example of this I can remember was when Victimise knocked out Blitzed. DK went ballistic during the game, tried to give away all our aliases, but got them wrong and talked an endless amount of shit to the spec freq. To make it even better once the game was over he totally changed his tune and tried to pretend he didn't care. I wish I still had that spec log, but it's long gone. There is this from ScoreMaster, but that's just the tip of the DK imploding iceberg.

Now I'm not saying all this is going to happen on Sunday, but DK wouldn't be DK if he could get through a playoff game without a little of that going on. Keep your eyes peeled.

Powerball Week 4 Draft Tourney Recap

After last week's cancellation after the first round of games week 4 of the tourney was played out in full and there was no server problems. Again the number of sign-ups increased and there was two new captains. We're very close now to being able expand the tourney from four teams to six. After my whining on the PB forums the sign-up window was opened earlier, at 6.30pm EST, to allow players to register in PB then go on to Warzone to play in the WZL pre-season scrim and then come back when the matches in PB started.

You can see how the draft went here. For those of you keeping score at home here's where I've been picked in every draft so far since week 1: 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th. This can't be a coincidence, this whole tourney is a huge conspiracy against me =(

The tourney didn't go completely smoothly, there was a problem with the drafting. Stag forgot to close sign-ups once the draft had started and two people (Javelin and I can't remember the second) added themselves during the middle of the draft. Unforeseen ending up drafting them both and had them removed from his team. So unf went into the games with a much weaker roster than the other three teams. Here's how the results went:

The less said about the unf/snow game the better. A large chunk of our team just gave up - and not when the game was out of reach. They gave up as soon as Snow's team scored the first goal.

There's still a few glitches, but the tourney is getting bigger week by week. Last Sunday saw the return of Snow and Hagetaga to Powerball. A few more weeks of this and we should be ready for a full league.

If you want to play next week just show up. Sign-ups will be open from 6.30est to 8.30 est, just follow the instructions on the welcome message to get registered. The draft will start at 8.30est and the first set of games will kick off from 9est. Remember the number of squads is always dependant on how many people sign-up. So even if you're like me and get drafted late you'll still get to play (I've shown to every tourney so far and started every game). For more info check out Powerballzone. Chaos head sysop Passplay (The Chaos sysop that's OK to like) has been in full-on Bob Geldof mode recently looking for more donations to fund the MasterRater/Bot server. Just a few bucks from each of us who plays in there will cover it, the server costs about $180 per month to run. I've managed to play this game for the best part of six years now and have never paid for anything - I didn't even buy the original game CD - so it's probably time I put my hand in my pocket and I suggest you do the same.

I was talking to Passplay last night and he said that by far the majority of donators are from Chaos, not Prem. We need to step it up, we can't let Sneakerz win. If every Prem player paid just $1 that would keep the server running for about three months. Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, give a man a fishing rod and he'll say 'WTF, how can I eat a fishing rod you retard?'. Something like that anyway.

So what happened to Sneakerz after he he went postal on CF on Sunday and all the feedback from it since?

Well if you say he got banned himself for abuse of his powers then you don't know Subspace politics very well. If you say he didn't get banned but was taken off Chaos staff and lost his powers then you really don't know Subspace politics very well. If you said he was demoted from being a sysop to a mod then you seriously have no clue about Subspace politics. If you think that a ban, loss of all powers or a demotion is a little too severe for a first offence so he got a temporary loss of powers - say for a week - then I guess you just started playing this game today and have no clue how things work around here.

Sneakerz is still around (he was in spec in RZJPL last night) and he still has all his powers. GG staff.

Vangels

Vangel is an old term first coined by the original programmers meaning "virtual angel" and was used to label all volunteer staff in VIE zones. These staff members in Chaos are the old and crusty advisors and right-hand men for the head sysop. They also dedicate gobs of free-time and whole-hearted love to grease the cogs of the second longest-running zone in Subspace. Their range of duties are varied depending on skills.

Vorbometer Predictions For Pro League Round 1 Playoffs

There's two ways you can look at this season of Pro League. The first is that it's been a colossal waste of time, we had to sit through the whole regular season just so Assassins and Unhallowed could face each other in the final round to decide the top seed and the playoffs will be just as boring as it's obvious that it's going to be an Unh/Ass finals so why not just play the ProBowl now?

I like to go with the second option. Yes Ass and Unh dominated the regular season, but we still got to see Cloud implode as Sterling's captain and watch ZDX rocket around the map like an out of control North Korean nuclear missile. When it comes to the playoffs expect some fireworks too. It's rare that they unfold as the seedings would suggest, it always seems that one of the lower ranked teams makes a run. There's less chance of an upset with all the matches being a three game series, but don't expect them to be a procession for Assassins and Unhallowed.

So here's the return of the Vorbometer for round 1 of the Pro League playoffs, which this week are brought to you by Vin Diesel, the early years. SCRAMBLE FOOT TO FOOT.

#2 Assassins vs #7 Starseed
(reg season: 8-4 Ass)
We all know how good Assassins are - defending two-time champions, won four out of the last five titles and are captained by Mop who has appeared in ten of the last eleven ProBowls with Ass, Intrepid and Final, winning nine. So what are Starseed's chances? Their regular season game was close. It was tied after 30 minutes and Ass didn't take over until Reaem was knocked out to make it 4v3 and even then SS played strong and didn't get targeted out.

Starseed have one thing going for them, their dueling skills. That won't help them offensively: most out-and-out duelers tend to hit the line on their own, get isolated and targeted out (See: Marley, Bob.). It well help them defensively though. People like Reaem and Bobby Dentist don't get flustered when they're under fire. They do have two fairly big things going against them however. First of all for Starseed to have any chance of winning they have to show their best four and play the perfect game for three full matches, while all Ass have to do is start any four from their roster and expect to dominate.

The other thing going against them is the result of the Ass/Unh game. Mop is going to be pissed and he's not going to want to mess around here. He'll be looking to mop up (geddit?) SS and move on to an expected rematch with Unhallowed. If there's one thing worse than facing Assassins in the opening round of the Pro playoffs it's facing a motivated Assassins in the opening round of the Pro playoffs.

#3 Llamasery vs #4 The Dark
$$$ Game of the Week $$$
(reg season: 4-3 llamas)
If there was ever a team built for the Pro playoffs it the alpha llama tribe. In fact they've been playing Pro playoff style since their AML days. Now they get to put all that practice into effect. Look at their regular season record. They played five overtime games and won them all. This is not a squad who are going to be intimidated by making their Pro playoff debut this Sunday.

It's been a disappointing end to a promising season for The Dark. They won seven of their first eight games and looked like being on the same level as Assassins and Unhallowed. But they've lost their last three games by a combined score of 14-36 and have stumbled into the playoffs. Llamas are not the kind of team you can play yourselves out of a losing streak. They will just not give you anything obvious to focus on, or thow a couple of easy kills your way to build your confidence up with. I can't see The Dark's losing streaking ending on Sunday. It's going to be tight and inevitably it will be decided in overtime, but in the end the llamas will march on fairly comfortably.

Watch out for: Sneakerz banning Odin for not being mathematically consistent to all Pro pilots in his rankings.

#5 Poke Her vs #6 BIA
(reg season: 9-6 PH)
As I said at the beginning of these predictions there's always one team that comes out of nowhere in the playoffs and this season it's going to be BIA. Brothers in Arms had a terrible start to the season. Their roster looked weak and they went 0-3 in the pre-season then dropped their first two regular season games. Picking up 9-Volt saved their season, he's been their best player by far while getting Dantos and Anamalech on their roster has given them some depth. Their make-up round win over The Dark last Sunday shows that they are a team in form and are a team no-one will want to play.

Poke Her are a hard team to read. They've been inconsistent through most of the regular season, although it seems that they usually win when BrokeStatus shows and lose when he doesn't. They have won their last three games, but since those games were against Creation, Exultant and Fuel don't read too much into it. I wouldn't call PH a one man team, but they come pretty damn close. If Designator and Slimster can give Three some support and CL can get his weasel into gear then they can match BIA's starters, but I just think BIA are coming into this series with much more confidence and will come out winners after a struggle. I can see this series playing out like BIA's whole season: PH take game 1, but BIA slowly improve through the matches to take games 2 and 3.

Watch out for: Sneakerz banning BrokeStatus for starting all three games in a weasel when he said he'd play the whole season in a terrier.

#1 Unhallowed vs #8 Creation
(reg season: 12-3 Unh)
Creation are the anti-llamas. If there was ever a team who are built to suck in the playoffs then this is it. You could take the time to explain to ZDX about how important patience is in a playoff match, how it's the specials-count that will dictate the flow of the game not kills and how the result will be decided in the final five minutes not the first five minutes. Unfortunately by the time you've gotten all that typed out ZDX has already died twice and used all nine of his rockets.

The result is never going to be in doubt here, but game 1 will be worth watching for ZDX alone and his usual rocket first ask questions later playing style. At least Charlie Brown occasionally questioned himself when he tried to kick the football and ended up flat on his back again, ZDX never changes style no matter how many times it fails. Not that that's a bad thing, what other reason is there to watch a Creation game?

Game 2 won't be as fun to watch though, because as soon as ZDX goes 0-3 he's going to quit. Enjoy it while it lasts. At least Savage comes out of the season with a $50 profit after winning the first WDT. what other Pro league captain can say that?

Chaos in Chaos

Remember this log I posted late last night? I got it from a thread Maeniel started on the Prem forums. By this morning the threads (he posted it on the AML, IML and Pro boards) had been deleted. Since then people keep starting threads about it and then the threads get deleted. Benji has tried to get round it by adding the log to his forum sig. After reading it you might be surprised that the Premier League staff would have any problems with the log as they come out of it looking pretty good - standing up for a wrongly banned Prem player.

The people who have problems with it are the Chaos staff, or the people who are upper staff in both Premier and Chaos like Mizerie (Chaos sysop, Premier League sysop and owner of the Premier forums. I'm not saying he's the one who's been deleting the threads, I'm just pointing out that he's a Chaos sysop, Premier League sysop and that he's the owner of the Premier League forums). This log highlights something that isn't supposed to exist: Chaos and Premier staff don't get on.

Sneakerz isn't pissed because another staff member lifted the ban. Sneakerz is pissed because a Premier League staff member has interfered in a ban he made in Chaos pub. We don't like your type coming in here and taking our jobs.

It's no surprise that someone like Sneakerz has so much power in Chaos. The zone has always had a pretty fucked up staff doing pretty fucked up things. Remember the suiciding mess? Remember when the Chaos reset stats were King? Remember the Chaos secret mod? (it was either Passplay or SuG, I can't remember which one now). How fucked up does a zone have to be to have a secret mod flying around?

I have a lot of respect for Passplay, he's one of the best sysops in SS, but there's a lot of weird people in Chaos and it's no surprise this kind of shit goes on in the background and it comes as completely no surprise to me at all that any public discussions of these problems gets shut down.

Chaos is the biggest SVS zone by luck. They don't really deserve the power over SVS players they currently wield. In the long term I would like to see - as I keep on saying - a combined SVS zone run on ASSS. That stop the public spawn holding all the cards and all SVS zones can share their population in one zone, but all still keep their zones independent and on the zones list. In the short term moving Premier League out of Chaos wouldn't be a bad idea, with Warzone being the obvious place.

It won't happen of course, not because of what's good and not good for Premier League, but because of what kind of impact it will have on Chaos. Why should the Prem staff have to put up with a power abusing moron like Sneakerz just because people like Mizerie hold all the cards? What exactly do we owe Chaos? What have the Romans ever done for us?

Just taken a look at the forums and all the threads concerning this have been deleted again. Mizerie has started a thread of his own however and written this:

However if you want to discuss it, do it somewhere else please. It is a staff issue, not a public one. I have given a vacation to 3 members of this forum now because of blatent disregard of what I obviously wanted done. Call me a nazi, I dont care, but trust me it takes along longer for you to type up whatever it is or copy and paste the log than it does for me to click "delete topic". The issue has been taken care of and no amount of bitching from the community is going to change what has ALREADY been done to rectify the situation. I am not sitting here defending Sneakerz and I am not here to preach that Staff is always right. we all make mistakes, let it go.

If posts on the public sections of this forum pop up regarding the issue then more vacations will be issued. I know you dont want that people, so just give it a rest. Pull up some old dirt on me and discuss that for a few days if you want...

All the playoff match-ups are best of three and at least two games have to be played on Sunday, so this week's scheduling round might well be like the old days of manually scheduling between squad caps.

Weekend Events

From now on I've decided to wrap up the week's posting with a look at what's going on in SubspaceLand over the weekend - or at least the SVS part of it. So if you're like me and the only thing you have entered in your diary this weekend is to watch Terrell Owen's return to Philadelphia this is the ideal post for you to find something to fill the gaps. Nothing is really happening on Saturday, but a jammed packed Sunday starting with Premier League.

Pro and IML are in the make-up round before the playoffs start. The games in Pro won't really effect the seedings for the playoffs, but it's a different story over in IML. This round is all about one team - Prospect - who play the other two topped ranked squads CRV (6est) and SFE (7est) in two very long awaited games going on what's been said on the forums (for example this, this, and this).

The big game in AML is BU vs SkyRakers (3est) which will decide who sits at the #2 position in the table in their own right behind the table-topping Fly-NDie, who play SFA (2est). In all there's eight games due to be played in Premier League on Sunday running from 2pm to 7pm EST in ?go 4v4a - ?go 4v4e in SSCX Chaos/League SVS. Over in Hockey Zone there's a RSHL triple header for all you internet space hockey nuts. Janitors will be looking for their first win of the season when they face off against MISConduct at 7est, then Creasers have a chance to go top of the table if they beat DreamTeam at 9est. If Creasers do take the win Execution have the chance to take their #1 spot right back when they take on Breakaway at 10est. All the action will take place in ?go rshl in SSCE Hockey Zone. To keep abreast of what's going on in HZ go to Center Ice.

The WZL pre-season scrims continue with a new time. This week they will start an hour earlier at 7pm EST. These games are open to anyone. Just come to ?go league in SSCX Warzone CTF a few minutes before the start time and hop in. Expect to see a lot more wz vets showing with the new time and the announcement today that player registration is open for season 15.

The reason the time was changed was so that it didn't clash with the PB Draft which will try to get over the problems of last Sunday. Sign-ups start at 7.30pm EST and are open until 8.30pm (although I'm trying to get that window widened) for anyone to play. Just enter SSCX Powerball and follow the instructions on the welcome message to get yourself listed. The draft will then start at 8.30pm and once the teams are set the games will be played from 9est in ?go pbleague1 and ?go pbleague 2. The team sizes are set up to make sure everyone who signs up gets drafted and gets to play.

Finally - and stretching the title of weekend events to it's limit - a reminder that this Tuesday at 9pm EST in ?go rzjpl in SSCX Chaos/League SVS will be the latest RZJPL event hosted by 9-Volt as he continues to tweak the settings in preparation for a full league.

I just noticed today that we've been getting a few hits from The Freak Show, a new blog by freakmonger. I've been on a couple of squads in the past with freak and he's good people, even if he has forsaken his SVS roots to become a sysop in Metal Gear CTF.

Hockey Zone Server News

Just a quick update on our new server: It took them a while to process my order (ordered on Sunday, confirmed on phone two days ago and server was set up today) but it is finally all set up and ready for us to put our software on. We're now in the middle of installing ASSS and anything else we may need.

I ended up going with Canaca because we seem to be getting the most bang for our buck with them, and they're located in Toronto. Which, apart from meaning Brivulture and I will have awesome pings, it will be easy to get in touch with them in case something screws up. Say, a router going apeshit.

Their website is http://canaca.com/ if you want to check it out. The one I went with is VPS Dedicated Server 3.

I'll keep you guys updated with the ASSS testing. And again, our last day on this server is October 21st. We'll probably be fully moved over a few days before that though.

StarFire Academy/SkyRakers Appeal Approved

I missed this when I was going through the logs when I did my AML predictions. For around 90 minutes on Sunday the server had massive lag issues with a lot of people, including myself, suffering from high ploss. When BU were warming up for our game we couldn't practice in a 4v4 arena and had to play in Chaos pub where the lag limits are less strict. This has actually happened to me for the last two weeks where I've entered the zone with 10%+ ploss (the league limit is 5). Luckily it's settled down under the limit before the match was due to be played.

The SFA/SR game was played during these server problems on Sunday and as you can see from the log SFA were particularly effected by it, losing one slot and totalling 15 lagouts in all. Not surprisingly SFA cap Solar Hydro appealed and the match will be replayed in the make-up round. When the full result of the appeal is in it will be posted on this thread.

I combined parts of my AI bot and a old client project to make a small game and figured i'd slap it on here to see what people think. Its a preprerelease now so if it runs, great. If it doesnt I dont really care

The objective in the game right now is just to kill and for every kill one opponent is added.

Its pretty much like subspace offline right now and I dont really have any plans for the game. I do have some ideas though and it would be nice to see what ideas you guys can come up with. One is to take advantage of the AI as much as possible and turn it into somewhat of a strategy game. You could have your own ship and then ontop of that have teams of maybe 3 ships that you can give orders in combat. For example, "Follow me" or "Swing right". This could make for some pretty massive fights.

I have a couple other small ideas aswell but Im mostly interested in gameplay ideas right now so I'll leave it at that.

Known bugs at the moment:
ship bouncing glitch.
drawing glitch that creates an empty line around middle on some machines.
you can shoot when youre dead.

It's not the first time someone has come up with an offline version of Subspace, but this is the first time I think someone has made one which keeps the feel and look of the game, although unsurprisingly the ship settings are from DSB. Here's a few screenshots I just took:

You can play full screen at 1600x1200 res, but you can't take screenshots which is why all of those are in desktop mode. I think this could be a fun game and since it uses Cont .lvl's it wouldn't be too hard for an SVS version of this. Kudos to Bjorn for working on it and I'll keep you updated with any Project Subspace news.

Another great week of RZJPL testing. The game took a bit longer to get started. Remember Tuesdays at 9PM Est! The game took about one hour and a half. Good match. I thought the settings were pretty much optimal. However I think bursts need to be lowered again. They are pretty rare as it is. Maybe I just need to lower the greens some more. Seemed like there are still a ton of greens. Comments about the repel strength? Anything? I think we are getting close to starting the league up! I'm thinking also of putting up a REAL jackpot. If anyone is interested in donating. I'll probably donate like 100 dollars. Maybe charge an entry fee to get a real nice Jackpot up there that would be fun.

He asked for some feedback. here's what I wrote in reply:

I was only able to play the first half hour, but the settings played fine for me the way they are. I don't think greening is too much of a problem, you need a lot of specials to make the games interesting, although too much allows the games to go on too long and people will start to drop out. I didn't really play long enough to say whether you've gotten the balance right.

I like the idea of a cash jackpot, but if you do that you're going to need stricter rosters than past leagues. If people can just play by ?squadjoining like CZL then the final match will just see monster stacking. Stable rosters through a regular season would help that a little. I don't agree with an entry fee, at least not yet. I think that would hurt building up a pop. I think people would donate some money though. the WDT prize money certainly brought back some interest to dueling tourneys.

The biggest problem I found with the old RZJPL back when I hosted some games for Low was that over time freqs would drop out leaving just same one or two left to dominate the games . The first two seasons my squad made the finals purely because I kept people on the freq through the whole game and over time out-scored the more talented squads who started to drop out. With the incentive of a cash prize and static rosters people would be more inclined to play out the whole game.

One way to run a jackpot cash event is to have it seperate from RZJPL. Run the league as it has been in the past; anyone allowed to play as long as they're all ?squadjoined to the same squad name on a priv freq, play for 10 or how many regular season games you want and then the top five (or top 25% of squads) qualify for a two round final.

Then after that have an invitational-only event with a cash prize. Players can only play if they played a certain number of RZJPL games (5 out 10 reg season games or whatever you want). you could even offer a chance for non-qualifying players to compete if they contribute to the prize fund.

All this is just off the top of my head, but it could work. Anyway, keep up the good work 9 and I'll do my best to make next Tuesday's event.

Vorbometer Predictions for AML Round 12

After a month or so break, which was down to 50% work and 50% laziness, the Vorbometer returns just in time for the start of the Premier playoffs. You didn't think I'd miss out in the Semi-Annual DK Playoff Meltdown did you? I'm actually trying to find a new name for it. Choke doesn't cover it and you can only really meltdown once. How can you meltdown something that has already melted down a dozen times? I'm looking for suggestions, but I'm leaning towards the Semi-Annual DK 'OMG I married a 15 ton shetroll and now I'm going to suicide my spacehip online as a statement of how my life has gone to shit". Still needs work I think.

This week I'll only be doing predicts for AML though. I won't bother with the make-up rounds in IML and Pro, but I will start predicting for them again when the playoffs begin next week.

Since I've been gone the AML standings have been shaken up. FnD have pulled away from the rest of the pack and look like certs to make the top two and get to the finals. The other spot is still wide open, with only Warlords out of the running. Right now BU and the resurgent SkyRakers look like the favourites, but don't count out a late season surge from ReDS or SFA to get themselves back in the mix. You can say what you like about the 'new look' AML and it's lack of squads, but the new format with no playoffs has meant that every game counts and has made for an exciting season. This coming Sunday see's the start of the final third and Warlords aside everything is still up for grabs.

Last Sunday saw BU return to winning ways after a two game skid with a comfortable 12-0 win over Warlords who only showed two. FnD kept themselves on top of the standings by coming back from 4-1 down to beat ReDS 12-7 and in the final game SkyRakers showed that there is life after JackMove by taking out SFA 12-6 and extend their winning streak to three.

The round 11 MVP is shared between the only two Warlords who showed up for their game against BENCHERS UNITE; shellshock and Kitchen Sink. The two man turrent of doom managed to last seven scoreless minutes before getting trapped by that SS legend known as a terrier. After the turret was broken up they never got it going again and got targeted out easily. The LVP of the round is shared between the only two Warlords who showed up for their game against BENCHERS UNITE; shellshock and Kitchen Sink. The two man turrent of doom only lasted eleven minutes before going down 6-0 to a BU starting four that featured that lobbing lamer a terrier. Sad.

So here's the long awaited return on the Vorbometer, which this week is brought to you by the Lego vibrator.

This is the biggest game of the season so far and will have an impact on not only the top two spots, but also on the make-up round. Whoever wins this will sit alone at #2 in the standings and can cruise into the final. BU already hold the tiebreaker over ReDS so a win here means that only SFA stand in their path. Those two teams play each other in the final regular season round. SR have re-found their mojo since JackMoveGate has blown over and another win over BU here should give them the confidence to go on to win out and secure their own finals slot.

Thrown into this mix is the trashtalking after the second game. I've heard that SR blame a terrier (ie. me) for getting JackMove kicked so slapping them down and killing out a terrier at 2-3 was seen as vindication by certain people on their roster and they weren't shy in bringing it up after the game was over. I don't know where they got the idea it was my doing. OK, so I did do it, but I don't know where they got the idea from.

Stir the pot a few times then add the wildcard of the first game between these two squads into the seriously bubbling mixage. That first SR win gets the Barry Bonds asterisk as it is one of the two JackMove games. At the end of the season SR have to either replay that game in the make-up round or forfeit. So if BU win, but falter down the stretch they have another game in the bank to steal the tiebreaker back off SR and if they lose on Sunday they still have a second bite at the cherry. With all the teams so close it's hard to say whether that first BU/SR game is going to count or not. All BU should be really thinking about is winning this game as it puts their destiny in their own hands; win on Sunday and then win out and they will be in the top two.

SR have the advantage of knowing they've already beaten BU without JackMove and must be confident they can do it again. But how easy is it going to be? BU are the hardest squad to read in all of Premier League, looking IML level one week, to only showing two the next. BU weren't at their best in that second game, which going on past experience probably means that they will be at their best this coming Sunday. JackMove may now be a memory, but SR have a new weapon up their sleeve. With belt gone I was expecting GeminiGirl to step up and become the leader, instead it's been this man .... er, boy ...... person ..... thing:

I speak of none other than the artist formally known as ThorStormTrooper, who in the last two games he's played has gone a combined 7-0. Can you imagine the fear of seeing that rocketing towards you with all guns blazing? I know it would scare the crap out of me and considering that I'm probably going to start for BU in this game that doesn't help their chances any. jee

More must-win stuff here. SFA have two games left against FnD. This game on Sunday and one more in the make-up round. SFA have been in a funk lately. Since their 1-0 forfeit win over Warlords in round 8 they have lost to ReDS and SkyRakers while their only win was over BU. But that win is not as strong as it first seems. Ebola lagged out for BU at the start and they had to play the entire game 3v4 and they still almost won.

Meanwhile since their bad loss to BU in week 4 (where they had a 7-2 lead, but blew it after some dumb subs and lost 12-8) FnD have been undefeated and look like making the finals as the #1 team in the standings. I haven't seen them play since that BU game, but they seem to have settled down since then and have a strong starting four. In their six game wining streak they have had five different MVP's which suggests good some teamwork going on.

Meanwhile SFA are still going the feeder team route - trying to play as many people possible in every game. A good move for SFE as a whole, but it's not going to help their chances of making the top two in AML. If SFA lose here they still have games with ReDS, BU and the make-up game with FnD to play, but with SR and then FnD holding the tiebreaker over them I can't see them making the final and will only be a spoiler squad during the run-in. So should Solar stick to his guns and sub out all his starters or should he play his best four for as long as he can to stay in the finals hunt?

Why are you asking me, I don't fucking know. Should be an interesting game to watch though.

Watch out for: The RedShift Memorial Four Man Sub from SFA. Here's an interesting snippet for you. Back in AML season 6 when RS did the four man sub it was actually illegal. If all four slots on one team specced at the same time so there was no-one on their side playing, then they automatically lost the game. Back then I was cap of Victimise and I was hoping to use this little piece of knowledge to get a cheap win over them, but we never played each other. We lost to Unforeseen (hi twr) in the semis that season , who then went on to beat Redshift in the final. Since then I think the rule has been changed.

RZJPL Returns

Since I've been gone Running Zone/Jackpot League has come back. It's now hosted by 9-Volt on Tuesday evenings from 9pm EST in ?go RZJPL in Chaos/League. I've always been a big fan of RZJPL. I was a ref for the first two seasons when low hosted it and I've always tried to show up and run squads whenever it's been running.

Right now 9-Volt is at the stage of running weekly events and asking for feedback to tweak the settings. Whether this will eventually see a return to a full league format or it will just be run as a weekly event remains to be seen, it's just good to see it back on the SVS calendar.

WDT Main Event Result

The first WDT event was held last Saturday and the $50 prize money went to surprise winner Savage. Savage made his way to the final by beating Summon in the first round then taking out Sage and his brother Ghostbuster17 (fix) before upsetting most people's favourite Rage in the semis. In the final he met tournament organiser Jae who got there by beating Digs, Tunahead, Three and Brut.

Powerball Week 3 Draft Tourney Recap

Last Sunday's daft event wasn't finished due to server problems. Everything looked good at the start. We had another good turnout of players which gave us enough for four squads of nine. The module stagnate has written to handle the draft was a lot less buggy than the previous week and we had the smoothest draft so far. You can see how it went here.

Yep, I dropped a round again. from the 7th round in week 1, the 8th in week 2 and now down to the 9th. You'd think with half the draft caps being squaddies of mine one of them might throw me a bone. Oh well.

The first set of games went off without a hitch. From memory Stagnate's squad beat Seismic 1-0 and unforeseen beat life's squad 6-0. We were about five minutes into the second round of games when the problems started. The zone started recycling. We would all get kicked out, then the zone would seem stable for a couple of minutes, the games would almost be ready to be restarted, then we would get kicked out again.

After four or five attempts to restart were killed by this people started to give up and not come back when the zone did. After a while it was obvious we couldn't continue with the tourney and it was cancelled. There was enough people to play a scrim on phant's map though.

Things should be back to normal for next Sunday. The tourney is open to anyone who wants to play. Just show up in Powerball between 7.30 and 8.30 EST to sign-up (instructions on how to do this are on the welcome message). The draft then starts at 8.30, with the first round of games starting at 9est. The number of squads and size of rosters is decided on how many people sign-up so everyone who shows will get to play.

Powerball Draft Event Recap

The second draft tourney was held this past Sunday evening in Powerball and it was another success, with a bigger turnout of players. Enough people signed up to have four squads of eleven. You can see how the draft went and who went where on this page. For those of you keeping score I dropped down a round this week going in the 8th. The draft itself didn't go as smoothly as last week. This was mostly down to the module Stagnate is coding to run the event which still needs a few tweaks.

After the draft the games went like this:

unforeseen 2-1 (4-5 vs fck it, 2-0 vs CL, 4-1 vs Seismic)

Cheap Liquor 2-1 (7-1 vs fck it, 0-2 vs unforeseen, 7-6 vs Seismic)

Seismic 1-2 (7-6 vs fck it, 1-4 vs unforeseen, 6-7 vs CL)

fck it 1-2 (5-4 vs unforeseen, 1-7 vs CL, 6-7 vs Seismic)

Unforeseen's squad should of gone 3-0. In the last minute of the game myself and Design worked the ball to Cheap Liquor's squad goal. There was still plenty of time left to score and force OT. Most of our squad was trailing and since CL had three goalies I should of waited for support and the goalies to be killed. Instead I went for glory, slid into the goal but was killed before I could get a shot off. Turek got the save and cleared the ball to run out the clock. Looks like I'll be moving down another round next week.

I will be recruiting captains in advance this week. If we can't get captains we can't run leagues or events. It is not a significant amount of time, so if you can't step up any other way, at least be willing to captain occasionally.

Also, code is being ported each week. Things were still rough but I hope to have all the draft code implemented in time for next week, which will speed things up significantly.

Format will probably change, suggestions are welcome. We had 4 teams, but I'd like to see 6 (we probably would have been close if drafting hadn't taken so long). More than 4 teams can't last for round robin. I don't know of a good way to organize 6 teams without creating a bye, and don't know if players will stick around for that (too much delay).

Phant made a suggestion for how to handle six teams. Split them up into two groups of three, play round robin and then the top two squads play each other to crown the champs, then the next two play each other and the final two play each other so all squads get three games. I think that's a good idea and we should have enough people to run six squads next Sunday.

If you want to play show up next Sunday from 7.30pm to 8.30pm EST to sign-up for the draft. The draft will then start at 8.30 with the games kicking off from 9. For more info go to Powerballzone.

Powerball Draft Event Recap

Last night's draft event was a great success. There was a good turn out for the draft which went fairly smoothly. There was enough people there for four teams who played each other over three rounds. You can see how the teams were made up on this page (fear my 7th round pick).

Here's how the games went:

Unforeseen Squad: 3-0 (5-4 vs Malarky, 3-2 vs Devs, 6-4 vs fck it)

Malarky Squad: 1-2 (9-5 vs Devs, 4-5 vs unforeseen, 5-6 vs fck it)

fck it Squad: 1-2 (6-5 vs Malarky, 1-2 vs Devs, 4-6 vs Unforeseen)

Devs Squad: 1-2 (2-1 vs fck it, 2-3 vs unforeseen, 5-9 vs Malarky)

During the first two rounds of games the server died a few times which is why there's no stats. The next event will be held this coming Sunday. Sign ups will start at 7.30pm EST and will be open for an hour. After that the draft will start. Here's what Stagnate wrote on Powerballzone:

This event will be run again next Sunday. Signup is from 7:30 - 8:30 EST, if you miss signup you WILL NOT PLAY! Stagnate promises to show up on time.

Again, signups start at 7:30 EST and last one hour. At that point we will run the draft, which could take as long as 30 minutes although I hope that it is much quicker.

Format could be round robin or single elim brackets, depending on the number of teams. Plan on playing 3 games.

This is a great way for new players to play some competitive Powerball. The number of teams and roster size will be set up to match the numbers who sign up - so everyone who shows will get drafted and will play.

Also, this probably kills my own attempt to revive PB will a pyramid league. As I said in my first post about this the only reason I was starting a league was to get interested back into Sunday evening league play in PB. Stag has done it with this event and it doesn't look like we'll need anything else to rebuild the population back to where we can run a full Classic league or CashBall season.

High Scores Problem

This week was the score reset, but I haven't put up the SVS reset stat leaders yet as the high score database is down. It wouldn't be a surprise move if it has gone for good as this has been the only link left from the old iNET server and Sonera. All their other ss related stuff has been gone for years now.

I've posted on the SSCentral forums about this to see if anyone has any clue to what is going on. I'll post any news here as to what's going on.

Sorry about the delay posting this; I had to stay away at work for an extra week (wah). There will be a draft event aka organized scrimmage next Sunday. Signup is from 7:30 - 8:30 EST, if you miss signup you WILL NOT PLAY!

Again, signups start at 7:30 EST and last one hour. At that point we will run the draft, which could take as long as 30 minutes although I hope that it is much quicker. Format could be round robin or single elim brackets, depending on the number of teams. Plan on playing 3 games.

You can read the thread in full here. As things stand now this won't effect the PB Pyramid league I'm planning on running and I'm still going ahead with recruiting squads. I see this as a first step towards a full 8v8 league, with the PBPL being the next step. It might be that this will take off so that we don't need the PBPL and can go straight from scrims to a CashBall or Classic season which would be very good news.

I'm not starting a league because I want to have the power, I'm starting it because I want to see PB back playing regular 8v8 leagues and the sooner we can do that the better. Well ... maybe I'd like a little power you know.

There's enough interest in this to take it to the next stage. If you want to be a cap mail me at ss_vorbis at yahoo.co.uk with your playing name, squad name and then I'll set you up on ScoreMaster. Once we have a minimum of four squads with a roster at least 15 (preferably 20) players we can go onto the next stage; Getting the rules down in stone and scheduling week 1.

I will let anyone sign-up as a cap, but if it doesn't look like you're going to get a roster I will cut your squad. The Important thing here is to get some stable squads playing every week. I'd rather have four solid rosters of 20 active players than seven or eight squads of half filled rosters who will no-show.

I know you've all been waiting with baited breath on how the conferences are going to look for the RSHL regular season. Well Icevulture dropped this bombshell on Center Ice:

After much discussion, the BOD has decided to abolish conferences this season by a 2-1 vote with 1 of the members being indifferent, and the other unable to vote due to being preoccupied in real life. The LC also supported no conferences, in case some of you were unaware.

Although the no-conference format will not generate the same type of rivalry that a conference based league could have, the fact that you guys change teams so much almost nullifies that. Although I should mention that some teams have a similar core each season, the effort of making the conferences as even as possible was far outweighing any gains from having them. Next season we will re-evaluate the league and determine if we will stick with no conferences, or move back into a 2 conference format (or even a 2 conference 4 division format if the leagues were able to successfully merge).

I've given Judge the green light to go ahead and create a schedule. He is working hard to try and put out a 2 week schedule tonight, just so you guys know who you're playing to start off the season (which begins Tuesday Sept. 5). After that he'll take a day to relax and then work on releasing a schedule to show teams the first 8 or so games that they're playing. After some discussion, it was decided that releasing a full and complete schedule was not a great idea, as teams tend to want to change availabilities at the midway point of a season (because their school schedule changes the next semester, or for whatever other reason).

Another important note is that the season length is now going to be 22 games (instead of the 21 that was previously being planned). Teams will play every other team twice during the regular season. The top 6 teams in the league will still be making the playoffs with the top 2 teams earning a bye. The playoff schedule will be much tighter this season, as teams won't be able to schedule their own games 2 weeks apart. We're going to be trying to avoid the whole "take 1 month to play a 3 game series" scenario that the league encountered last season, and seasons before that. More on that when the playoffs draw nearer.

Makes sense to me. Since everyone plays everyone else in RSHL conferences have never been that big a deal. The only time they really mattered was for the RSHL all-star game. No news yet on how that's going to be worked out this season. Maybe they can go the same route as the NHL and have a North American team vs a European team. Could be interesting, although most Hockey Zone Euros play in the MSHL. The first three weeks of the season have also been published. Here's how it looks:

So you read the Cheat or Lag? post below, checked out the videos, read the thread and you still didn't see what the fuss was about? Well join the club.

Turns out the problem was with Continuum 38. Apparently you could still enter Chaos with this client. If you remember a pre-release version of 39 was rushed out after a hideous prox bug in 38 was found. So people have been able to still enter the zone with 38 and play games with the prox bug still in effect. Now that you can no longer enter the zone with anything other than 39 things should be back to normal.

It bares saying that the prox bug is still there in 39. It's been fixed for bombs, but not for thors. I don't need to tell you that if a team-mate of yours half a screen away gets hit by a thor and it causes you to die. Fun stuff.

The thor prox bug is on the list of things to fix in the full release of 39, fuck knows when that will happen though unless PrittK decides to hand over the source code to someone else. Can't see that happening anytime soon.

Thanks to input from the captain's in the captain's forum, combined with input from the Vangels today, we should have conferences (I wanted no conferences) drawn up by the end of tonight.

The regular season schedule will have its first game being played Tuesday September 5th. I don't know which teams will be playing yet because I haven't asked judge to make the schedule yet. Speaking of the schedule, I originally wanted a full season's schedule to be released in a one shot deal. Due to concerns with team's feeling they may need to change their availabilities at some point during the season, we'll be releasing only a portion of the schedule at a time. How big of a portion? Well I'd like to release half of it, but we'll see what we come up with.

Teams can expect the same pace as last season with the 3 games in 2 weeks scheduling in full force (maybe 4 in 2 weeks if your team postpones a game and has to catch up). Remember our season is going to be 21 games long with teams playing the 5 other teams in their conference 3 times each, and the 6 teams in the other conference only once.

Ignore the lame prox squares. I'm not sure I'm seeing anything here that isn't normal lag and damage dropping. So is it the server, is it Bobby D's connection, is it a cheat program or is it a Continuum bug - maybe related to the old prox bug?

Vorbometer Predictions For IML Round 6

The Vorbometer is almost firing on all cylinders again. For round 5 it went 4-1, the third straight set of predictions I've gone and-one, still waiting for that perfect round. The game I called incorrectly was FutureCrew over Llamasery 6-4. I did say that with their new recruits FC could be the squad to beat in the second half of the season, but I didn't expect them to gel so quickly. In the other games Prospect and SFE took care of their opponents (Striker and ReDS) easily, the LI revival lasted exactly one week as they went back to only showing three again in losing 12-0 to FnD and Nightwatch almost had another OT upset of a big squad before going down 5-3 to CRV.

I hate to say it, but the MVP of the round was DeathKnight. He went 6-1 with 2 KO's and 1 forced rep in Prospect's win over Striker. The LVP of the round has to go to NW cheerleader-in-chief Kejami. In a vorbis-like performance he managed to play the whole 49 minutes of the game without making a kill or dying before getting taken out in OT. He did manage to force two reps though, which is two more than I usually get.

So here's how the Vorbometer foresees round 6 of IML, which this week is brought to you by Metallica lullabies:

What the hell is wrong with Nightwatch? Don't they read my predictions? I keep telling them they're a stale squad of over the hill vets who should of moved on to Pro season's ago and faced a fresh challenge instead of treading intermediate waters. Yet they still try and compete and almost beat top of the standings CRV last Sunday. You guys need to take more notice of what I say.

This is a hard game to call as it really comes down to who shows. Both these teams don't have much in the way of depth to compete with the top four, but they do have some very solid starters that can get the job done. If both teams show their best then it's going to be a very tight game which will probably end up in overtime. If either squad has to look to their bench to fill their #3 or #4 slot then it could be over very quickly. The game is that balanced.

I'm going to go with FnD in this one as the game has been scheduled for 3pm EST. NW have traditionally been a late night squad and that early time could hurt their showing more.

Since no-one cares about this game and the only question is will LI show two or three this round lets talk about Prospect for a bit. what are they up to? Why all the postpones? What kind of strategy are they following? Will it work? Do Prospect have more colours of P banners than Victimise had colours of V banners? Who was that masked man?

In a Vorbometer exclusive I can reveal exactly what's going on. I've worked out what Sumi is up to. He's trying to kill DeathKnight.

If you remember at the start of the season I said that no squad could win a Premier League title with DeathKnight on the roster. He always chokes it up in the playoffs and takes his team down with him to fat wife hell. I still stand by that. Happily Sumi also knows this and has come up with a cunning plan. With all these big games in the make-up round for Prospect to play back-to-back I don't think DK can take it. All that choke potential, all those random thors flying all over the fucking shop. I don't think his brain is going to be able to handle it and somewhere around the five to ten minute mark in the SFE game his head is going to explode.

Premier League will be postponed for a week so we can all mourn the passing of the idiot and then Prospect can go into the playoffs without DK holding them back. Brilliant. You know ... maybe I should stop writing this predicts while Law & Order Criminal Intent is on the TV in the background.

Watch out for: DK brain splatter. I recommend some kind of hat

ReDS (1-3) vs Striker (2-3)
It's a Bad reunion, except the ex-Bad on ReDS are playing good, while the ex-Bad on Striker are playing ... er ... bad. I didn't see the games last Sunday, but going on the score and the log it looks like Striker still haven't got any kind of teamwork going for them and against a squad with the depth and practice ethic of ReDS it's not going to change here.

After a 12-2 loss to Prospect last weekend, expect another lopsided score. And no, I don't know how Striker have a better record than ReDS at this point in the season. It's just one of those questions that will never be answered. Like how come Don Cherry has managed to go through half the season without going totally apeshit and ?squadleaving during a match then going to spec to tell everyone how crap his squad is?

The zone has a real old-school feel about it with the original subspace ship graphics and the 1280 res cap, but not being on SSC billing is going to hurt it. Last week's predictions saw me going 2-1 again (still waiting for that 3-0). I called the BU/SFA game wrong. BU only showed three, then ebola lagged out after 1m 40secs of game play and SFA cruised to a 12-0 win inside 12 minutes. In the other two games Fly-NDie took care of Warlords easily 12-4 and SkyRakers showed some post-JackMove signs of life before going to down 12-8 to ReDS.

For the round MVP I'm going to go with FnD's Medicus who went 6-2 with 1 KO and 1 forced rep. The round LVP comes from the same game. North Star, who was coming off a 5-2 MVP performance in round 4, managed to go 0-3 with 1 forced rep and a dire 5 wasted rep in 8 minutes of sucky game play. The rest of WL weren't that much better. ZoAnimus (4-3) was the only player who managed to get any kills for them.

With the first third of the season over the standings are as close as most expected. With all teams playing each other once FnD, BU and ReDS lead with 3-2 records and SR, SFA and WL are all only one game behind at 2-3. Remember there's still the matter of the two SkyRakers games to be replayed or forfeited to take into account.

I promised myself to keep off the sports analogies this season and so far I've managed to, but I'm about to slip up. Premier League seasons are usually like the NFL. You play a regular season with the squads normally split into divisions, then you have the playoffs and then you have your final. This season of AML is more like MLB. Each squad is playing a three game series against the others. And those series' results are going to decide the top two squads as I'd be very surprised if tiebreakers weren't used to split the teams. So this section of the regular season is going to see squads looking to take two game leads or tie their series up and keep in contention for the final third of the season.

So on with my round 6 predicts, which this week is brought to you by fisting and God's will.

Fly-NDie (3-2) vs ReDS-AML (3-2)
$$$ Game of the week $$$
(previous game: 12-6 ReDS)

A win here for ReDS will give them a two game lead in their regular game series over FnD and a real boost for their chances of making the finals. But it could prove to be an even bigger game for FnD. With a loss to BU already, another loss to ReDS could force them to win out the rest of the season as their two main rivals for a finals spot will hold the tiebreaker advantage over them.

More bad news for FnD is that ReDS now look to have the most settled starting line in AML. With Army, Papa T, Super Bunny and Zhule set as their starters ReDS are starting to become the squad to beat this season. FnD are coming off a big win over WL so their confidence is going to be high and Burnt Special is a smart enough captain to make sure that his squad knows how important it is to them not to give two wins away to ReDS, but with those question marks against their bench still there after the BU loss (FnD made no subs last Sunday) I think ReDS will just pull away to take it at the end. I'm expecting one of the closest games in AML so far this season, well worth your time speccing.

StarFire Academy (2-3) vs SkyRakers (2-3)
(previous game: 12-5 SR)

That win for SR is one of the JackMove games so it's not clear what's going to happen. I think these middle games are going to decide SR's season and if they'll replay those first two games. If they can pick up a couple of wins I think they're more likely to take the option of replaying them in the make-up round. If they continue to lose I think they'll just take the forfeits.

And going to on their performance last week they could get those wins. They still miss JackMove leading the line and they have problems with their #4 slot, but with a real lead-by-example performance from captain kawika (5-3 with 1 KO) last round they almost upset ReDS. The biggest disappointment for me so far has been the performance of GeminiGirl who again played well below her ability going 1-3 and dying out at the 28 minute mark. Looks like she's running on hempty (geddit?!?!?).

I can't really rate SFA from their win last Sunday. Four monkeys randomly hitting the keyboard would of put up a better performance than BU did. I know I keep calling a SR upset in these predictions, but this week I think they're going to do it as long as GeminiGirl steps her play up and becomes the heart and soul (geddit?!?!?) of their starting line.

Warlords (2-3) vs BENCHERS UNITE (3-2)
(previous game: 12-2 BU)

BU are still proving impossible to predict. Coming into last weekend with wins already over ReDS and FnD BU were starting to look like title favourites. So what happens? They show three, have one lag out to make it 2v4 and get royally stomped. Still no sign of squad caps Beef and Phil which I think is starting to hurt them. You can only turn up and play a couple of minutes before each game and win so many times before you end up with what happened last Sunday. I can't see them having two bad showings in a row though which is going to be bad news for Warlords.

In their first game against each other Warlords did exactly what BU did last Sunday. They showed three, then one lagged out to make it 2v4 and they got royally stomped. I'm expecting both teams to show this Sunday and I'm also expecting more royal stompage. This time by BU over WL to take an unassailable two game lead in their series. Unassailable, that's a good word. I need to use it more.

PB Pyramid League

Take it from me, when you have ideas that seem great when you're drunk always wait until the morning before posting on a forum laying them out. Then you won't get stuck with trying to run a league in Powerball like I have this week.

Like all SVS zones Powerball lives and dies on it's leagues and since the move to ASSS there has been no leagues and the fights over the small/large public spawn continue. As there's no sign of a new league on the horizon and no-one on staff is willing to run one I've decided to offer my shitty services.

I'm looking to run a simple league along line of the Saturday Pyramid League in Prem. A knockout tourney to crown the first champions in week 1, then every week after that current champs face off against the winners of that week's tourney for the top spot of the pyramid.

If you're interested in playing or helping check out the two threads I've started on the PB forums here and here. I'll do some of the work on this blog, but most of the league will be run from ScoreMaster. I've already set a league up, you can check it out here, but there's not much to see yet.

Right now I'm looking for captains - we need at least four squads for this league to work - then to start filling out the rosters. There's enough appetite in PB for a league like this to work.

You may have noticed that the blog has grown an extra month. As I said above I'm going to use this blog for some of the league stuff. I'll backdate those pages to Jan 2006 to keep them out of the normal blog archive. It's a very weird experience when someone you only know online dies, specially in a setting like Subspace - or any online game really - when you only know them as a spaceship sprite and by their gaming persona which could be a million miles from what they are really like as a person. There's always a chance of a hoax, but as this came completely out of leftfield I have no reason to believe that this isn't true.

Blackout wasn't my first WZ or WZL squad, but it was the first squad where I really learned how to play CTF properly. T.Mac was another new WZ'er on the squad. He was only 15-16yo then, but a good kid and fun to have on chat. We both went on to play for DOMINATION before he stopped playing ss.

I found out today that he died a couple of weeks ago at just 18. You can get more details on the thread his friend dMx started on the WZ forums here.

Best Ban Ever

Just read this on the SSForums:

I find alot of the bans going on to be a little excessive, not my place to say when someone does something stupid, but when the bans hit home, then its a problem. 2 days ago, I was banned, for the most ridiculus reason ever. The ban is still active (netban #1984). from the start basically, i shot a cat with a blow dart (yeah sure its not right, but when this wild cat pisses on your windshield, and takes a crap on your hood, you want it dead.) so i told Jericho24. (not to complain, but he does kill rats and mice for snake food) about it..

which inturn cased me to lose my sysop position of sscc desert storm. The job isnt important but once they remove/ban me from the zone. I'm sorry, my property comes with (www.dszone.net). If you look on the Registrant of the domain, it lists myself (David DeRenard). So once i took my domain cleaned it out, and forwarded it to a Dutch Gay Magazine Companys website, apparently that was grounds for a netwide ban.

In my understanding, anything in my PERSONAL life (outside of ss), can not be used to netban me. I have not broken 1 rule of the SSC ban policy. Im not posting this in hope of getting my ban lifted, that dont bother me. I just feel you should all know about it.

To all of you who have gave me a banfree, i respect you for that, and for following decent ban guidelines.

Current ban description: "Axed sysop of DS, took down DS website and forwarded to extremely pornographic websites. Ban authorised by SVS"

And for SVS, i realize you dont like me, thats your choice. But this was ridiculus, as a bang operator you yourself should stick to a decent set of guidelines.

Vorbometer Predictions For IML Round 5

After a round break from predicting I returned last week and went 3-1. The game I called wrong was Nightwatch comfortably handling a Striker team whose problems look to be a little deeper than just bad subs. In the other games Liquid Inc. finally showed four to a game and were even competitive for a while (they were 2-3 down after 15 minutes) before CRV put their foot down and won 12-5. The match of the week turned out to be a bit of a damp squib as ReDS were all over Secret and won 12-4 and in the final game llamas took out FnD 6-2

The round MVP goes to bushes. He hasn’t shown much this season, in fact this might be his first regular season start (without full MR stats it’s hard to tell and I’m too lazy to check back on Mauler’s site). On Sunday he took all but two of llamas’ kills going 4-1 with 1 KO and three forced reps. With him and Exactman (who grabbed llamas other two kills in the game) llamas might actually get 12 kills in a single match.

The LVP of the round was an easy choice. When Whirl subbed in for Trash-killer at the 26 minute mark Secret were 5-2 down to ReDS, but not out of contention. 4 minutes later after going 0-2 with 1 wasted rep Whirl was out, Secret were 9-3 down and the game was over. Ouch.

So here’s my Intermediate predictions for round 5, which this week are brought to you by Jessica Biel’s ass:

CR Virgins (4-0) vs Nightwatch (2-2)
The Nightwatch cock is erect and proud and the IML community is sucking upon it mightily. Well excuse me if I don’t join the ‘Wow, NW are back and haven’t they all got cute asses!’ brigade. I watched almost all of their game against Striker and I wasn’t impressed. That was a game Striker threw away rather than NW taking hold of it and winning it. I still say NW look stale and will not be a threat to the top four in IML. Once I get hold of something I refuse to let it go, I don’t care if NW don’t lose another game all season.

CRV are currently on top of the top four right now, although that has more to do with ReDS week 1 upset and the SFE/Prospect game being postponed. CRV have the teamwork, they have the depth, they have the ability to strafe tall buildings in a single bound and their trash talk is coming along quite nicely too. Another thing they have this season is Steve_Zissou’s weasel. I’ve known Stevie for longer than I care to remember over a fair few number of squads and the thing you have to bare in mind is that to get the best out of him the rest of the starters really have to adjust to his playing style rather than him adjusting to the rest of the squad. When you do that Steve will give you an ungodly amount of kills in a game (plus a couple of stupid deaths, but you just have to live with that) and as that’s exactly what happened last week (6-2 over LI) it looks like CRV have worked out how to play with him. Expect a lot more Stevekills to come.

Talking of weasels, whatever happened to Covert Agent? I remember the first few seasons of IML Covert’s weasel was fun to spec. He would run perm X and anti, go afk for periods as he was capping the squad as well as starting every game and he just wouldn’t die while guaranteeing you at least three kills per game. At that time he was the best weasel in Premier League. Now look at him. Pretty much what happened to the rest of NW. You should of gone to Pro.

So LI finally show 4 to a game for the first time all season. If more majorum starts to show up they might actually win a game before the season ends. Not here though.

FutureCrew (0-3) vs IMLamasery (1-2)
$$$ Game of the Week $$$
My main interest in this game is seeing how the new look FutureCrew (FutureFutureCrew?) will play together for the first time coming out of their bye week. For those of you who missed my Premier transactions post FC have been the most busy squad between the locks. In addition to roark they’ve also picked up coast and Grinder, along with winning the JackMove lottery. If you don’t know the story JackMove (Belt) started the season in AML with SkyRakers. It was then found out that he didn’t have an AML ranking and was kicked out of the league. As the staff saw this as a mistake rather than any deliberate move to cheat he was allowed to join an IML or Pro squad this season. I have it on good authority that a bitter AML bencher for life who is also on the AML rankings panel ratted him out. Don’t know their name though.

This season’s llamas of IML have something very few llama squads have had in the past. Teeth. I didn’t see much of their game last week, but I was impressed by the copious use of the forwardarrow by bushes. Maybe he’s been spurred on by the fact he wasn’t added to the llamas of Pro. I know I’d be pissed if someone thought Mortok was a better player than me.

FutureCrew now have a very solid looking starting four with their late recruits added to the seven year itch, but I don’t think they’re quite ready to take on the tight teamwork from llamas of IML. They could turn into a real spoiler squad down the stretch though.

Prospect (2-0) vs Striker (2-1)
So Speed has been mutinized and is no longer cap’n, and while he takes his rowing boat back to Belguim Mr. Serrate is in charge of all things Striker. But after watching their last game I no longer think bad capping is the source of all their problems. Although they did make one bad sub (Maytag for crazyman when majeure was available) they just don’t seem to have any teamwork going for them at all, which is surprising when the backbone of this squad has played together for years on Bad and Blasphemy. Maybe it’s a clash of egos (Pretender could piss off his own reflection) or maybe it’s down to inactivity, but Striker just can’t seem to gel as a team and against a squad with the skill and depth of Prospect that means wipeout.

ReDS vs StarFire Elite
Most people will have this down as the game of the week, but I think SFE take this easily for a couple of reasons. First of all if you read my AML predictions you know I think ReDS are playing as many people in each game as they can knowing that they’ll make the playoffs anyway. Yes, they will make the playoffs – they’re just that good – but they’re not going to beat teams like SFE on the way unless they use their best four.

Secondly is the CRV factor. The talk on the IML forums recently has all been about the current leaders in the standings. Coming off the Prospect postponement I think SFE will want to make a statement to CRV, Prospect and the rest of IML. That statement is ‘We’re mad as hell and we’re not going to take it anymore’, or maybe it’s ‘Get these motherfucking snakes of this motherfucking plane’. Whatever it is it means that ReDS are going to get SHReDDeD.

RSHL & MSHL Start Times

Teams may or may not have read some of the changes in the S13 rulebook, so I'm going to point out one of the bigger changes happening this season. Rather than having 10PM games get delayed, and delayed, and delayed some more so that they start at 10:40PM or something stupid like that, we're going to have the games starting at the times that they're scheduled to start. The referee training guide has the following in it:

-Games should be STARTING at the time they are scheduled
-If a game is scheduled for 7PM, it should not be getting announced to the zone at 7PM or 7:02 PM, it should be getting announced at 6:50PM and starting at 7PM

Consider this your formal announcement about this rule change. You need to get your teams online and ready to go so that the game can start ON TIME. If a team cannot show 4 or more people by the time the clock gets to the time your game is supposed to start, you will forfeit. If you can show enough people to your game, but they're having lag problems, the refs can wait for things to clear up so that he can start since your team had enough people when the game was scheduled to start. There are limits to how long the ref should be waiting though. I'm not going to put a firm number like "5 minutes" up there or anything, because it depends on the circumstances of the situation.

Games SHOULD be getting announced to the zone about 10 minutes earlier than they're scheduled to start, give or take a few minutes. The important thing to remember is to have your team ready to go on time so that the puck can drop when it's scheduled to drop. This rule not only makes it easier to figure out how long you're going to be playing your league game, but it's going to make things easier on the refs since they'll be able to finish the average game within the 1 hour time slot so that if they feel like helping goal judge the next game, they have the ability to do it.

I've got a feeling that a lot of squads are going to have lag problems in pre-game. Although to be fair WZL had the same problems with start times and did a lot to fix it last season and by using the same method of calling games earlier. in Premier League the system is slightly different. The game is called when the match is scheduled and the ref then starts a ten minute timer. If you can remember back to the start of the regular season in Premier League I made this post about the first roster lock. This Sunday was the second and final lock. The rosters are now fixed for the rest of the season. No player can join or leave a squad now.

So here's what player movement there was between the locks in all three leagues:

Pro League

Leak (joined Unhallowed, left Unhallowed, joined Fly-NDie, left Fly-NDie, joined Unhallowed)
If I was playing for one of the top two teams in Pro I'd also like to leave and spend a few days on an AML feeder squad before going back. What the hell was that all about?

Tardcart (joined NightBane)
A good pickup for NB. If they are going to win any games this season in Pro it will be with Tardcart starting and leading the attacks.

Senior (joined Unhallowed)
The biggest regular season transaction. Unh still can't match Assassins in terms of depth, but the addition of Senior give’s them a starting four that can give Ass some competition and solidifies their status as the #2 squad in Pro.

Fists (joined Nightwatch)

Grinder (joined FutureCrew)
A big pickup.

Coast (joined FutureCrew)
A bigger pickup.

roark (joined FutureCrew)
The biggest pickup.

JackMove (left SkyRakers, joined FutureCrew)
So SkyRaker’s loss is FutureCrew’s gain. The hunter becomes the hunted. The aml’er becomes the iml’er. The warbird becomes the weasel. The belt becomes the belted. I’ll stop now.

Entertainment (joined nobody)
Poor old Corporal Canada, not even NW wanted him. I wonder if a certain article in a certain blog put off prospective captains from offering him a spot? I’d be gutted if I had anything to do with keeping the dueler from Venice Beach from playing internet asteroids this season. No, really.

AML
1st (joined BENCHERS UNITE)
The addition of 1st gives BU a real WZ flavour this season. Also, watch out for a lev turrent in at least one regular season game.

Thizzen (joined StarFire Academy)
Another WZ’er who’s come over to 4v4. Hopefully with the WZ Cup being played in Chaos currently we’ll start to see this work the other way too.
